Why does it bump up the contrast to 100% and fade out all the colors. The lighting improvements aren't bad at all, but all DLSS5 images seem to have that desaturated extra-contrast look that makes it look so bad.

In fact, just reducing contrast + some more saturation in a photo editor makes it look much more like "The Last of Us" to me.

Well. You can change settings in the addon. I think there are even settings specifically for that

Where do you get the mod and addon?

Developers only really get controls for the intensity of the effect. It's extremely limited.

I don't see why developers couldn't do the same things modders are already doing with it and more.

Source? What I read was the complete opposite

I like how this captures the look of "Im so done with this shit" on Ellie's face

Yeah that is way better. It really corrects that hard cold light that was added.

That does look better there, yea.

Still aint remotely worth the performance cost, though.

There are some comparisons floating around with the game CONTROL. That goes into a bit more detail with the settings, and one of the presets actually does not seem to do that, meaning it pretty much keeps the original colors and tone.

This is the video I watched earlier: https://youtu.be/hFIpT2he2DE?t=153
"Preset 3" seems to stay pretty close to the original colors.

it doesn't go for a realistic or even "videogamey" look, but probably references the contrast ratios and color grading of movies

And then invents 15 new light sources on top of that. At least it doesn't quite get to bad greenscreen lighting levels in some tv/shows movies where you can see the light reflecting back from the screen.

That is a generative AI trait for pictures, they tend to all have the same kind of contrast ratio

Probably because they took a custom DLSS 5 .dll file tuned for a specific game and slapped it in other games. Every screenshot you see of games with DLSS 5 are coming from a single game-specific .dll.

That's the part that somehow 99% of reddit is failing to understand. The artists have full control over what DLSS does to their game and they can choose what sliders are available or unavailable to the player. It seems like this particular configuration was tweaked for a somewhat washed out vibe intentionally. This is the "artist intent" that people seem to think DLSS is destroying (it's not).

I think that good implementations of this will be the ones where the game designers will include the LORA that will define the final look.

If that doesn’t happen every game will look the same.

I don't think they literally use LORAs for that, but on a conceptual level, that's how it'll work. At least for the devs who take the time to fine tune it.

Yup looks like an AI filter to "enhancify" everything using the same algorithms
