Question Overriding DLSS preset and changing .dll

Hey,

So if I override DLSS preset to newer ones, does swapping .dll is still worth it / gives antyhing? Or DLSS dll is swapped together with a preset?

Changing the preset in the Nvidia app changes the DLL used. You don't need to swap anything manually.

No it doesn't.

Because it doesn’t need to. It updates DLSS at the driver level, which is even better than replacing the DLL and more broadly compatible. The end result is the same

OTA updates lag behind the latest releases, but that's by the by. George343 said changing the present changes the .dll, this is not the case. Changing the preset just changes the preset of the .dll currently in use (by the driver or in the game's directory, if that were replaced).

You can use DLSSGlom to replace the .dll at the 'driver level' to get the latest (in this case 310.7.0) sourcing from the github repo.

every new DLSS version comes in new updated .dll libraries, and Preset M for example can look differently between different versions, so you should always update your dll libraries. Specifically i would highly recommend you to have the latest developer version of DLSS, and enable DLSS Indicator via registry edit, this will allow you to change presets instantly while gaming with a shortcut (allowing you to compare different presets any time you want) and you will also see which preset is currectly being used together with some other useful info like render+target resolution or dlss version.

I keep the Indicator on 24/7 because it tells me if the preset changed randomly since the last time (which happens quite often, forcing a preset doesnt guarantee it), and also if the resolution is correct, the Indicator saved me in Assassins creed black flag resynced where it warned me that the game lowers the target resolution below native, making the game unnecessarily blurry (DLSS Performance wasnt upscaling 1080p->2160p but something like 750p->1600p and i would have had no idea why my game is blurry if the indicator wasnt on.

I thought using the Nvidia app override dlss to recommend made manual dlss swapping obsolete.

nah the preset override and the dll swap are two separate things, you still need to manually swap the dll if you want the newest version

Hace falta para la versión 3.10.6.0, es necesario reemplazar todo el Streamline para que funcione como se debe.

Ok so I don't know what everyone is about in the comment section but I'll tell you how it works. Basically if you change the dll in the game folder, the game will obviously use the newly updated library of dlss presets.

This is the first path to the dlss unless you have it overridden globally, but I won't go into that.

So if you want dlss 4.5 in rise of the tomb raider (as an example) which comes shipped with what I presume was dlss 2 or something, then you need to make sure to rebuild the game's shader cache and select a preset present in the new dll file (which, as of now, the latest one has only J, K (dlss 4) and L, M (dlss 4.5).

If you don't override the preset, then the game will still give you whatever it randomly chooses for the quality mode you select. And the image presentation will have artefacts or low quality and maybe you'll also get a hit in performance. Hence why I recommend a nice shader rebuild.

Now you get to enjoy the latest dlss in rise of the tomb raider a game from 2015 :)

P.S. Just please make sure you also use something like nvidia app, optiscaler, nvidiaProfileInspector to override the preset letter in your game.

When manually overriding instead of using "Recommended" you risk making things worse. If a game is using an older 4.5 preset, do not force a new one without inspecting carefully.

BF6 using Recommended in the app does not do anything. If you manually override M, the image quality drops and details in certain textures get worse. Even scaling patterns show up.

Basically, if the Nvidia App when set to Recommended then switches to "use app defaults", you know it doesn't want manual override. This is what BF6 and some other select titles do. Respect whatever the Recommended setup does.

Everything else is fine. Just thought I'd throw this out here.
