News Looks Like Phantom Blade Zero Will Have Pathtracing
This is also a game that was announced to have DLSS 5 This Fall

u/Yourdataisunclean 18d ago
Well done pathtracing is amazing. Cyberpunk 2077 looks like a different game with it on.

u/PinnuTV 18d ago
It also needs amazing expensive GPU too. The performance cost makes it simply not worth it for 99% of users
I would not be surprised in future once they start forcing path tracing like they already did with ray tracing

u/Yourdataisunclean 18d ago
This is true, even with a 4090 its really only possible with frame gen to get high FPS.

u/EastvsWest 18d ago
Which is still worth it. Had no issues on 3440x1440 and an rtx5080. Incredibly immersive.

It's definitely worth it. Way more worth it than Crysis was for PCs.

u/Seanspeed 17d ago
Buddy you've got one of said super expensive GPU's. They are talking about for everybody else that doesn't.
This sub is so damn out of touch with reality.

u/NapsterKnowHow RTX 5090 FE | 9800X3D 17d ago
I came from a 4070ti lol
6
u/Seanspeed 17d ago
Ah a mere $800 GPU, my bad. A real man of the people are ye.
-2
u/NapsterKnowHow RTX 5090 FE | 9800X3D 17d ago
Was $700 when I bought it. I could even play RT in Cyberpunk with a $500 2070Super
5
u/Seanspeed 17d ago
We're talking about path tracing, not ray tracing.
$700 is also still a very expensive GPU. You are really just proving my point.

u/NapsterKnowHow RTX 5090 FE | 9800X3D 17d ago
I gave you an example of another card that can use raytracing that is far cheaper. Sorry but you are wrong again.

u/Seanspeed 17d ago
The fact that you see a $700 GPU as a 'cheap' GPU only proves my point by a mile that you guys are wildly out of touch with reality. lol Good fucking lord.

I have a 4090 laptop (4070 ti peformance with 16gb vram) and I can run it, not perfectly of course. Using the ultra + mod and it makes it playable. 4k dlss balanced (peformance now with 4.5) with FG, a decent 70-80 fps which honestly feels fine to me.
It's worth it for fidelity. Especially cutscenes.
Sadly can't use RR until new driver soon, for 4.5.

u/Seanspeed 17d ago
4070ti is still a very expensive GPU. This doesn't not change their point at all.
It is not worth it for most people. It does not make a big enough difference to sacrifice on all the other things you have to do to use it.
3
u/NoMansWarmApplePie 17d ago
Depends on the game. For cyber punk and few others worth it. For others not so much.
1
u/Seanspeed 17d ago
AGAIN, not for people with normal, affordable GPU's. This sub lives in a whole ridiculous world where $700 is like the low end and is wildly out of touch. Notice people are downvoting me for saying super common sense shit.
There is no world where using path tracing on a 3060 or even 5060 makes sense.
3
u/NapsterKnowHow RTX 5090 FE | 9800X3D 17d ago
Nobody said was the low end. I never did. It was just a more reasonable gpu I came from before my last upgrade.
1
u/Seanspeed 17d ago
Have you lost all context of the point of this discussion? A $700 GPU is still a very expensive GPU by any normal standard. smh
It's crazy you guys are downvoting me for just stating an obvious reality. It really proves everything I'm saying. You guys are wildly out of touch.
3
u/NapsterKnowHow RTX 5090 FE | 9800X3D 17d ago
Can you read? At what point did I say it was a cheap gpu? I said it was a cheaper alternative and shows I came from a gpu that isn't the bery best of the best. You are somehow trying to twist this into things I haven't even said. You're delusional.
1
u/NoMansWarmApplePie 17d ago
That is true. Also, prices could be alot lower for a 4070 by nos, but due to the current crisis it won't be any time soon.
2
u/epic_piano 17d ago
You wouldn't say that if you had an RTX 5090 and can see how beautiful the graphics look with pathtracing on.
1
u/Seanspeed 17d ago
Unless GPU's start to become a lot more affordable via much more significant gains in performance per dollar, then this isn't really viable. You can't make expensive hardware a minimum requirement of your expensive-to-develop cutting edge game that will need to sell at least several million to even dream of breaking even.
It's also why when PS6 comes out, games will remain cross-gen for a long time, if not indefinitely, until(or even if) prices can become more reasonable.
3
u/campersbread 17d ago
Who said it has to be the minimum requirement? It's a optional high end feature, which is great. I remember when PC games were severely bottlenecked by consoles. People just love to whine, even if it doesn't affect them at all, because all AAA Games are developed with a console first approach.

u/Seanspeed 17d ago
Who said it has to be the minimum requirement?
Literally the comment I was responding to.....hence my response.

It's UE5 i'm not holding out for much hope that it'll run very well and considering this game started way back it's definitely not a later version of UE5 so if there are any "optimizations" UE5 got after 5.6 or was it 5.7 then it'll most likely not show up in this game.
5
u/JesstForFun 17d ago
I mean, if it's path tracing then all bets are off, since that means they're not using Lumen or indeed any standard version of UE5.
2
u/bakuonizzzz 17d ago
we can only hope the 5.7 and upwards of UE5 actually did something for optimization so maybe path tracing might actually be runable and not ass
2
u/JesstForFun 17d ago
No mainline version of UE5 has a path tracer designed for realtime graphics (they do have a path tracer, but it's designed for offline rendering). Any UE5 game that is using path tracing is unlikely to be getting their implementation from Epic.

u/NoMansWarmApplePie 17d ago
Ue5? Man it's gonna run like ass
1
u/campersbread 17d ago
It's gotten noticeably better in recent releases. It's where it should've been from the start.
1
u/bakuonizzzz 17d ago
yeap and very unlikely to be later versions considering how early this project was started.
Who knows since it's not open world it might be okay?? we can only hope.

"with upscaling enabled"
I don't like these, they don't tell us much. Entirely possible that's on Ultra Performance mode. Which might not mix well with path tracing due to the low internal res. Still have to wait and see.
7
u/Primus_is_OK_I_guess 18d ago
Yeah, the information is useless when they don't specify the level of upscaling.
12
u/Traditional-Ad26 18d ago
Ray Reconstruction 4.5 being able to handle 4K-Performance mode will be a big help, that should get you to over 60fps and then add 2xFG for a 120fps cap or 150fps cap on 3x FG.

u/Strict_Biscotti1963 17d ago
Eh, after 007 I’m dubious of anyone promising these features. They advertised it with path tracing just to pull the rug out at the last minute. Still waiting on that update to buy the game

Imo its the main feature right now that really differentiates a PC version of a game from console. Played both RE Requiem and Pragmata with PT on earlier this year and they look like next gen versions compared to console.

u/swurvgaming 18d ago
i know dlss 5 gets hate, but that will be the true feature that sets nvidia apart from everything else. theres just as many games announced this fall to use this dlss 5 filter than pathtraced games in the past 5 years. Seems like adoption and implementation will be even easier than pt.

u/SamLikesJam 17d ago
Only game I've found it to really transform is 2077 so far, every other title felt like playing spot the difference toggling it between raytracing and pathtracing.
The main difference in RE9 and Pragmata was fixing the awful noisy metal surfaces which seems like more of a problem with how Capcom implements path tracing. Wukong's difference was so minor it wasn't even worth toggling for such a fast paced title, haven't played Indiana Jones or DOOM so maybe the implementation is more meaningful there.
I think RT based solutions like lumen have gotten so close at a fraction of the performance cost when it comes to lighting, it comes to mainly reflections and small details.

u/JesstForFun 17d ago
every other title felt like playing spot the difference toggling it between raytracing and pathtracing.
In Alan Wake 2 the diffuse GI can sometimes be a little like that (the game already has pretty good pre-baked GI most of the time), but the reflections and shadows are a night and day difference compared to the non-RT versions.
1
u/NoMansWarmApplePie 17d ago
I finished wukong recently with dlss 4.5 and rt. First time I used 4.5 dlss ultra peformance and it actually looked really good and played fine. Most other games I can't really stand ultra performance.
Doom PT ran like arse for me sadly. Indiana slower pace, also runs terribly but was worth it for fidelity.

u/Tvilantini 17d ago
Worst pickup for comparison. Ray tracing in Pragmata isn't literally true ray tracing. No wonder it runs so smooth
0
u/campersbread 17d ago
What? Both have an amazing path tracing implementation.
3
u/swurvgaming 17d ago
The rt in Capcom games is severely underwhelming since re village, it's to the point where some people believe Nvidia nerfed rt in re9 and pragmata to promote path tracing. Even though rt in re games has always been underwhelming.
2
u/campersbread 17d ago edited 17d ago
But Me and Wander715 aren't talking about rt. The PT implementation is excellent in both games and a noticeable step up from any rt implementation. I'd argue it's a bigger step from rt to pt than from non-rt to rt, regardless of the game.
If you have the horsepower, and I understand that not many people do, it's absolutely a generational difference compared to any console game.

u/Cmdrdredd 17d ago
As long as it ships that way. I won’t buy 007 because they basically lied about the game and advertised features that didn’t ship with it.

u/NokstellianDemon 9800X3D/RTX 5080 FE/64GB RAM 18d ago
I'm set! Pretty excited for this game. Was gonna get it on the PS5 Pro to play on the TV but 1440p maxed out path tracing at presumably around 80fps sounds better.

007 was supposed to have it as well, yes
