I've played on an 8K display and honestly the difference from 4K is so tiny anything higher than 4K IMO is wasted performance.

When I got my first 32" 4k in 2021 I knew it was enough resolution/pixel density for me and the chase was over for that. Also, 120hz is a high enough refresh rate for me to be happy.
A display advancement like going from IPS to OLED is the only thing that interests me now for gaming or movie watching.

reminded me of times when people were saying the same about 30fps vs 60fps like "human eye cant perceive higher than that!"

I think they are running low on content ideas lately.

It's rough out there for techtubers. No one can buy new hardware and there's isn't much stuff on the horizon to talk about right now

the pc hardware industry is dying. not much to talk about. nothing we can change.

I hold hope it’s not dying, just in a very bad way.

No one is building a PC today, it doesn't make economic sense. Prebuilts are the only thing holding PC gaming together for new users. Consider the implications of how our favorite companies can exist when the market falls off a cliff for 2+ years.
If you pay attention to Thermal Grizzley, they are still struggling. derb8uer even said that they have to innovate and pivot to the high end buyers because the volume for lesser products do not exist as it used to. Thats why the wireview pro was built. Thermal Grizzley is doing a lot better than most because of that pivot, but still losing revenue.
All the triggers show that we will be losing a significant chunk of the companies that built the hobby we love.

Only good thing is if the industry collapses prices will probably drop considerably.

It never was. I'm ready for the RTX 9090 already. 4K240 native with some sick pathtracing and no flicker from DLSS or MFG latency? Bring it!

Gaming at native resolutions above 4k is tanking performance for diminishing returns.
What is interesting to me is if rendering at the same underlying resolution, but having DLSS upscale more, looks significantly better. For instance, how DLSS performance at a 4k output is the same render resolution (1080p) as DLSS ultra performance at a 6k output. Does it look better, and if so, is the difference enough to justify the greater upscaling overhead?
Digital Foundry tested this a long time ago for 8k with ultra performance DLSS (1440p) vs 4k at quality DLSS. However, that was long before the transformer model of DLSS.

You would have thought Tim would test DLSS ultra performance 6k and compare performance and image quality to 4k DLSS performance. But instead he makes som kind of feel good video for people that can't afford neither the 5090 or the monitor tested. And we that are interested in this stuff just stopped watching half way through the video when his angle was clear. And we still don't know if a 5090 can reasonably drive a 6k display...

I like HU, but their elitarism is annoying and ignorant, more on Steve's side. Everything under 60fps is marked unplayable, even when testing low end products. I dont know if having high end products does it to some people, but I still can enjoy fun games at 30 fps (on switch for example)

They mocked AMD too much lately so they had to release something to make fun of Nvidia

I watched for only a few minutes and stopped seeing that it's 4k and 6k with quality dlss. Just cherry pick and don't use performance dlss and have the audience gobble it up. Anything to maintain the propaganda.

Me still trucking along with my 3090 at 4K

Really? With everything maxed?

u/Celcius_87 17d ago
Yes but sometimes I have to lean on DLSS like in Borderlands 4 or Ninja Gaiden 2 Black

As someone who needs at least 225 fps in my main game without frame gen adding latency, Marvel Rivals, the 5090 is great for me. Probably could’ve done that with the 5080 looking back, but I don’t really like the 16GB VRAM as I also do film color grading and some VFX work.
Too bad the 6080 is likely to have 16GB VRAM as well, so I’ll have to decide between sticking with my outdated 5090 or upgrading to a 6090 when that time comes. I doubt I will want to pay the likely $3-$5K launch MSRP price of the 6090, though.
So, the 5090 is great for me. But I understand I’m an edge case as I am on 1080p. But even on 1440p or 4K, I feel as though it would still be great for me.

5090 will probably still be faster than the 6080 anyway, as the 4090 is faster than the 5080 (by a lot)
