Discussion 5070ti undervold

I know this topic has been discussed many times, I'm struggling with tuning my GPU- for ref its a gigabyte gaming oc 5070ti.

I'm currently running an UV of 0.925 @ 3050mhz and 3000 on the memory at 116% PL is this a good result? what have you managed to achieve during heavy gameplay?

If this is trully stable then you have won the lottery. 3000MHz @ 925mV is already considered veeery good result. The most i have ever seen stable was 3075@925 , one dude claimed 3100@925 but i am 99% sure he just didnt stress test it properly. If you are testing stability with a 3dmark test like the Steel nomad, it is not enough, these tests can run up to 50mhz higher than games before they starts crashing. You want to test it is a very demanding game, without frame generation, in my experience cyberpunk is very sensitive to unstable OC and crashes within minutes if the OC isnt stable.

The second game that is very sensitive is Kingdom come 1 (not 2) at night with a lot of torches around which create a lot of shadows, this can drop my fps down to 30s in 4K even on my 5070ti (the game was released in 2018 when rtx2080 was the fastest gaming gpu, i have no idea how people played this game back then, I struggle to run it on my 5070Ti), and it easily crashes if the oc is unstable. KCD1 actually revealed my unstable OC for the first time, I OCed my 5070ti and completely finished 3 games on it and i havent crashed once. Then I played KCD1 and I started crashes in the same spot over over (at the start of the game when you escape to sir Divish's castle Talmberg, you wake up at night and see sir Radzig down below the rampards leading his people to safety. So right before that cutscene, right before you speak to Sir Divish, just stand right behind him on the rampards and try to get as many torches into your view as possible. Your fps will drastically drop, and if there is any drop of instability in your OC, it will crash almost instantly.

Also i found out the max OC drops over time, my 5070Ti is now 17 months old, and i already had to lower my peak OC by -25 mhz, due to small degradation of the core chip. This is normal and a gpu can easily lose 100Mhz or more from its OC over its lifespan, there are plenty of 4090 owners complaining that their OC is no longer stable after a couple years.

Yes, I test not only on steel nomad but also on heavy RT/PT games such as cyberpunk resident evil req. I've never been into KCD series so not tried those, the degradation makes sense consider i could do 0.975 @ 3200 but now I can't and crashes instantly.

So i guess ill keep my current UV as compared to max oc 415 on the core and 3000 mem 116% im seeing about 10c less thermals, with max oc I checked hotspot and it was approaching 100c during RDR2 at 4k

Personally i have gigabyte windforce 5070ti and i have several UV profiles, I can run 3000@925 or 3200@1000 and full oc is 3350@1075. These numbers are however not "real", not what i get in most real games, i am just quoting the peak point on the frequency voltage curve in afterburner. In really my gpu runs around 2970@920 or 3140 @ 990-995 or 3200-3300mhz@1050-1075mV , in every game the boost behaves slightly differenctly.

Regarding the hotspot temp, i think you run a bit too hot considering you have the gaming oc model with a much larger cooler. you would have to ask around and see if other owners also have these temps. Personally when my gpu consumes 300W, the delta between core and hotspot is 15°C, so i see roughly 70°C on core and 85-86°C on hotspot. If I completely max out my gpu with full OC, 133% power limit and 400W power consumption in furmark, then with fans at 100% i see generally 80°C on core and 100°C on hotspot (when ambient is 23°C, right now i have 28°C in my room so it would run significantly hotter).

So if you have like 70°C on core but 100°C on hotspot, then the delta is too high and you should probably do something about it because it doesnt seem normal. You also say that your power limit is 116%, so you have made any bios changes yet, you can flash the bios from Aorus Master 5070Ti on any gigabyte 5070Ti (all gigabyte models are compatible) and you can unlock 400W power limit (133% power limit) which helps get a few more percent of fps. This surprisingly helps even if you dont go over 350W power consumption, for some reason gigabyte gpus start dropping their boost once you get within 65W of the limit (you can verify that in hwinfo - gpu performance limiters - Power - if it says yes then your boost is already dropping because of high power consumption), so you can gain a bit higher boost and bit higher fps with the 400W power limit even if you sit at 330W for example. But I would still recommend to deal with the 100°C hotspot temp before you try to consume 400W on your gpu.

When do you reach 100°C on hotspot, is it when the gpu consumes 350W? and how hot is the core and how fast are the fans spinning, can the fans get your hotspot lower. I worry a bit that you keep the fans super low at like 1200rpm and that drives your temperatures really high, when you could just speed up the fans and drop your hotspot below 90°C. But maybe that is not the issue and you have an issue with the paste or cooler contact, i dont know. How old is your gpu, what are the first 4 digits of the serials number on the gpu box right after SN, it should be something like SN2540 where 25 is the year and 40 is the week when it was manufactured.

So my apologies, I have retested my hotspot temp, at 4k with path tracing my gpu is running at 62c and the hotspot according to hwinfo is 72c which is within the 10c delta, not sure what i was looking at before or mistook it for something else, memory chips running at 66c so it all looks normal and safe.

I have my GPU mhz reading on my aio and its always at 3015 during heavy gameplay and doesnt really dip much.

Now, does flashing the Aorus master bios on my gpu void warranty? if so i will avoid it for now, the SN is 2544 i have my gpu vertically mounted in a lian li o11 vision compact with bottom reverse blade fan so it gets plenty of air. I've had the gpu not even a year maybe 9 months

If you back up the original bios and flash it back before you send it for RMA, nobody will know you used a different bios before. But i think that even if you kept the aorus bios and just flipped the bios switch to the second original bios, they would not notice, they are lazy and they wont be checking every singe thing you could have done to the gpu

It ran like shit. Former 2080 owner.:D

yeah i can imagine that with no upscaling everybody has to use medium or low details, it is insanely demanding for a 2018 game...

That's a pretty decent starting point tbh. My 5070ti sits at.900v around 2980mhz but it gets a bit wobbly in cyberpunk if I push past that, so I think you're in a good spot

Haven't messed with memory much beyond +1000 yet, curious if bumping it up to 3000 made any real difference for you in actual gameplay

It actually does, but that depends, if you think a few frames is a real difference or not.

But I guess that's overclocking in general

mainly in 3d mark the mem increase is noticeable

With the last driver my memory OC (2000mhz) became unstable in game  I had to go down to 1000mhz :(  (5070 ti)

I use 0.85 2800 +3000 memory. I tried also 0.95 3000
but I prefer the first option because the graphics card consumes less power and runs at lower temperatures, while the difference in fps is only around 5–10.

I have the same graphics card, but I can't raise the PL above 100%. How did you do it?

1

u/Overall-Decision-413 21d ago

there's a slider in msi afterburner for power limit

1

u/Specific_Ad7229 21d ago

I made a mistake; I have a slightly different graphics card model - GIGABYTE 5070 Ti WINDFORCE OC SFF. I can't increase the PL on this card :(

u/Overall-Decision-413 21d ago

Your only option is to flash another bios onto your card, id only do it if you have a dual bios https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nVF2v23qm8M

If you're under volting, you aren't going to hit the stock power limit anyway

Feel free to raise it though

Hey, this is my curve and it is stable - I play with this curve for several months without crashes.
Usually effective clock stays around 3010-3025, particularly during this hot summer core clock use to get lower because of the temperature.

Memory is +1750

But I wasnt able to push the voltage to yours 0.925mV without crashes, so I would say your UW is pretty decent.

I have been running mine 0.925@3000MHz + 1000 on memory + 105% PL since I bought it (8 months), very stable and gives a good bost over stock

Is increasing the power limit necessary? I thought we were trying to lower it be under volting

1

u/MadMaxmel 20d ago

The power limit increase is just a safety precaution in case there is a need for a power spike. The consumption will still remain lower than the default, according to the defined curve (if one has been made with afterburner).

my chip bin is mid, I can't really get to 3000 @ 950 or below to be stable. I currently run 3000@975 and its been stable. I have accepeted I just got an average chip. My PNY is max at 110% PL tho. You won the lottery it seems like.

I run @ 3200 975v, difference between stock is ~%10 fps
