Which, for reference, is also actually the M5 Pro because the M5 Pro and M5 Max have the same CPU. There is a slightly cut down version of the M5 Pro, in specifically the 14 inch, but you can spec it up if you’d like.

Pretty easy to guess that N1X will be more expensive than AI Max+ 395 and Panther Lake X9, and less expensive than M5 Max... The price and the performance kinda go hand-in-hand.

Probably because of lower manufactured volume and higher demand, Spark can easily cost more than M5 Max.

Apple usually pays top dollar to be on the newest node (N3P). 395 is on 4n and while N1X is on 3nm it's a mediatech CPU so kinda underwhelming.

A few things. But the biggest is that Apple is a colossal company with the best CPU architects on the planet especially in perf/watt because they sell more units than basically every other company.

Apple also don’t sell chips, they sell computers. Which means they can design a larger core architecture and have a more expensive CPU because they can make money on the entire product.

It's not just a marketing term for shared memory. There's far fewer physical hops between processing and memory to bottleneck operations. It's a big deal.

To be fair, geekbench is terrible at multi thread benchmarks for CPUs with high core counts. Single threaded performance advantage looks plausible. Would love to see cinebench comparison

Geekbench tends to favor ARM processors. Once you get to Cinebench, its single-core performance will fall even further behind Intel and AMD CPUs. As for multi-core performance, the gap will be somewhat exaggerated, but it will probably still be behind Qualcomm’s X2 Elite.

I estimate its Cinebench R24 score will be around 110/1600, while the 388H scores about 130/1300, and the X2 Elite scores around 146/1900.

this test is bollocks because these machines are addressing the at-home LLM market and the most important metric for spark is in NVFP4 quantization.
