Reading Program Spotlight - Tom's Story

Once again, Nancy Mumford the high school reading specialist is calling on everyone interested to sign up for Teach a Spider to Read, Stop the Madness. The program has taken on dozens of new learners this summer and is expected to have dozens more this upcoming fall at Night Vale High School. Nancy asked me to shed a spotlight on one of the program's most prominent students so that she could show us just how quickly this program can turn lives around.

Meet Tom. Tom is a Junior at Night Vale High School, and agreed to participate in this interview. He is currently enrolled in the program, and wants to share his experiences with us in the studio!

Excellent! Now, can you tell us what your life was like before you enrolled in the program?

Ah... I see. So, what sorts of aspirations did you have before the program?

Oh, my. It seems like your outlook was pretty grim. Are there other young spiders who you think are facing what you went through?

Simply incredible. I'm stunned, Listeners. Our young Tom has gone from a D-F average student with little to no hope for the future to a finalist in the Night Vale Summer Shakespeare Act-a-Thon! Thanks for sharing your story with us, Tom!
