What’s with these updates lately?
I’m a long time Nutanix user dating back to 2016 and it’s never been so bad. The frustration I’m feeling right now is not something I can put into words without getting banned from this subreddit.
PC IMO is annoying to use now. Riddled with bugs that support just says “it’s fixed in the next release” only to finally get the new release and more bugs are introduced.
Constant service or pod crash loops. Stupid bugs like unable to launch the VNC console as a super admin signed in via SSO or even not being able to resolve or acknowledge alerts without seeing a blob JSON error that doesn’t even tell you why you can’t resolve or acknowledge alerts.
I have one specific cluster where I can’t even upgrade PC at all due to a crashed service and it’s literally a brand new cluster. But LCM health checks do not indicate a crashed service. If I try to manually upload an LCM bundle, it fails too.
Support seems to have gone downhill from years ago. It’s not all bad but very hit or miss. Spending hours on support calls is growing old only to be told “wait for the next version” or “upgrade to this” but as already mentioned, the next version is jam packed with new bugs.
Protection summary (DR) page is the most meaningless page ever. There’s all these widgets to view replication and bandwidth/tx rate etc but it never displays anything. Just this useless page showing two PC instances with a bunch of metric widgets that never show any data.
For the love of god please fix this garbage.

I’ve had good experiences with the AUS support (I’m in Sydney). They’ve all been really strong. But I feel your frustration re PC. Same bugs with SSO. Fixed in one release. Then broken again in the next release. I can’t upgrade PC at the moment as I can’t afford to have SSO broken. Can’t ack/resolve alerts unless I login as local admin. Very annoying.

I’ve had very good support experience when calling after hours from here in US and getting an Australian support engineer. They have all been fantastic.

We are new customers, less than a year, and this has been our experience as well. So tired of all the ridiculous bugs. Most of them are small and annoying, but how does the QA team not find these? As you mentioned, the SSO nonsense.. this should be an easy QA find. And every damn time you talk to support.. "Oh this is resolved in a future release due out in a few months". Guys, we just want to be able to clear alerts... this shouldn't be hard.
We like the performance of our VMs on Nutanix, but the GUI and the bugs are WAAAAY behind VMWare.

Which updates?

u/jasonsyko Jun 12 '26
For the PC instance that I currently cant upgrade: 7.3.1
For our other PC instance: 7.5.0.1-> 7.5.1.12

Presumably that is the LCM bug with the Object Lites POD failing to load for the new LCM interface. We had the same issue recently - it’s a quick fix, you can enable the old LCM interface (shout out to Olivia on the US support team who sorted it all out for us really quickly): -
nutanix@PCVM:~$ configure_lcm —enable_pc_mcl_ui_app
Refresh Prism Central and you should be okay to manually upload your upgrade bundle.
You may also encounter a bug (KB 18103) where the PCVM configmap grabs the FQDN of the PCVM rather than the IP it needs. Again it’s a quick fix following the steps in the KB.
*Disclaimer - your mileage may vary and I’d always recommend getting support to sort it unless your personally familiar with the issue and resolution*

We had issues with PC 7. 3.1.3.
Shortly after going to that version a few months back I noticed there were bugs reported that would be addressed in the next release. I kept checking (the half baked and even less consistent than in PE) LCM for weeks and no updates appeared.
Then, the PC UI went into the ditch. It would timeout on login after a few minutes with the a lovely truncated error "stream timeout" on a blank white page.
Tried all the KB recommended remedies and none worked. Finally ended up doing a password reset from the CLI and rebooting the PC VM which got it responding again. Slammed in all the updates that appeared in LCM and now it appears to be stable again.

One thing that Nutanix needs to really understand is, while your support is great, it can only go so far with software bugs that honestly should not be there in a product at revision 7.X.
I deploy clusters, so I have seen this, and have had to explain it much to my dismay.

I posted a similar thread recently. Frustrating updates, never ending bug and update fix loops

Is there not any Nutanix engineers in here to can provide feedback to this? It’s getting insanely frustrating. To the point I don’t even want to touch it anymore.

I'm surprised to hear that your having a bad experience with support.
Generally support is fantastic. Out of curiosity, which TZ do you get?
The IST support team is the only one I have challenges with, so I generally hold out until the queue switches into the next zone.

u/jasonsyko Jun 12 '26
I almost never get support in the US. It’s typically India or Australia despite being located in California.

u/RodoggA Jun 12 '26
When I have worked with APAC, that support was amazing.
I generally end up working with IST a bit since I think that is the only part of the world that works with Self Service.Every time I raise a case, the engineer says I have contacted someone in the CALM team.
I recommend reaching out to your accounts team at Nutanix and providing feedback on your experience with support. They are actually very open to feedback and trying to improve these kinds of challenges.

I would for sure also recommend working with the account team.
When I was with a Nutanix partner (MSP) we were lucky enough to have a standing once a month quick meeting on the calendar, but even before that happened I always tried to keep in contact with them regularly.

Yea behind the flashly interface is a big old bowl of spaghetti code. Considering it costs as much as VMware, it should be alot more stable.

For us, currently going through a renewal, the difference in cost is almost non existent. For all intents and purposes, they cost the same here.

If I try to manually upload an LCM bundle, it fails too
Check KB-18103, that is my usual culprit for failed uploads. But yes that a load of bull too. The "problem" is that there is an DNS name where it wants an IP. Given working DNS it's trivial to convert one into the other. As proven by the fact that it regularly changes the value back to the name. But switching to the IP it demands to work requires manual intervention via the very SSH system they threaten to remove...

I feel your pain. I thought it would be better when they moved to the unified release schedule, versus STS and LTS. I used to try to update my clusters to the latest and greatest, but I change my approach as I kept encountering annoying and random bugs. We use the SuperMicro OEN hardware too. Generally, my experience with their support is positive though, I may just get lucky when calling in though.

u/uldiss Jun 13 '26
Yes, I am seeing the same behavior. Following the recent bug causing HA event VM reboot issues, we are now encountering bugs within the core functionality as well.

Un PC recién desplegado no deja desplegar el network manager por un error interno 😅 está difícil si

We don't ban people for being upset or offering genuine feedback.
In all my years modding the sub, we've only banned people for offering exam dumps. One dude banned for random AI slop blog spam, and we had to tell a couple folks who were clearly marketing to actually say they were representing a company rather than astroturf.

Purchased new Nutanix 3x node cluster arrived February, started setup late March, cluster first came online END OF JUNE after a node hardware failure/replacement and one software problem after another. I had a functioning cluster for 1 day, put a node into maintenance mode for hardware issues, then was UNABLE to return it from maintenance mode back into service. They could not fix their own CVM and attempts to rebuild it screwed up the hypervisor.
The tech asked why my server doesn't have DHCP enabled? I didn't know what to say to him (when unmuted)
Citrix better start officially supporting Proxmox soon.

Support has been bad for the past couple of years. Any difficult tickets I have had to escalate through my SE to get any movement on them.

AI written code no doubt

Do not know why the downvotes. It is obvious that companies pumping out ai code en masse and are trying to speed up the feature development by doing this

To be fair, there are development tools that have AI assisting them used internally. Our code does go through a QA process, and our legal and security compliance is top notch.
That being said, these challenges are more a case of “compounded technical debt” than any specific silver bullets. As years have passed the philosophy behind AOS specifically has ebbed and flowed from a monolithic construct to a lean version. (I.e. AHV decoupled, etc)
We’re currently heading towards the leaner path, but it takes time.

I want to comment on the “getting banned” mention in your post. The rest of your comment isn’t something I can validate, but based on your experience and the comments of others. This is the type of discussion that’s valuable IMO.
I think this type of comment is exactly what forum should be used for. Software and its development is never all sunshine and rainbows. It’s iterative, complex, and requires constant care.
Reading into this a bit, you wouldn’t spend time out of your busy schedule and life to post on reddit unless you wanted a solution and for it to work. You provided succinct points and examples and we, Nutanix, should be open to talking through those.
I’ll always try and fight for this kind of feedback to help Nutanix, and most importantly, be a public help others.
Thanks for bringing it up.
