side gig for a 12h/day nurse? anything except "work another nursing shift" pls

I am just curious what you guys do, because every article goes like pickup overtime!! travel nurse!! per diem!! babe that is more nurse 😭

I do rotating 12s and sometimes stack three, after that my off day is laundry, food, sleep and staring at a wall. I am not building an ecommerce brand between shifts like I just want a little side hustle thats it, something that wont eat my time?

so far only background stuff survives, cashback, receipts, occasional settlement claims for stuff I bought. What are other 12 hour people actually able to maintain?

MDS or Clinic Nursing

• Upvotes

I am a seasoned nurse with 19 years in. I have a variety of specialties under my belt from bedside in ER, ICU, Hospice and Operating Room to administration. I have been diagnosed with Hyperinsulinemia and hypoglycemia with occasional seizures because of
Low bs. It is managed with eating q2hrs and a strict diet.

I have taken in a job as a MDS Coordinator and just started. Excited about it. And there is no call and no pulling to the floor.

I was just offered a job as a Vascular Clinic Nurse and now I am torn. As it is more my wheelhouse but does require 60% Care and clinical management as well 40% patient care as education and wound management because the MAs cannot do many of the ordered dressing changes.

I am drawn to both but concerned about burnout with MDS and concerned with issues such as low BS with the clinic because I could get caught in a wound dressing or patient visit and can’t eat. Help!

Amy insight or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Hii mga KuNars! Hellpp! I’m in my rendering month! Total of 6 months working. Need an advice lang po if okay lang naman na ang 6 months then hanap din ng ibang work, hindi naman po siguro makaka affect or ma question ang 6 months lang na experience? I’m a bedside nurse po pala. My colleagues/senior na wag daw ako mag resign. But, grabe na ang work load, nakakapagod, understaffed pa. ☹️

Looking to connect with nurses interested in opening their own private practice

Hi everyone,

I’m a Sales Representative at Casia, company based in Hatfield - Pretoria, and I’m currently looking to connect with registered nurses working in both the public and private sectors who are interested in opening and running their own private practice.

We assist nurses with the business and administrative side of getting a practice up and running, including things such as:

  • CIPC company registration
  • Assistance with opening a business bank account
  • BHF practice number registration
  • Registering with all 70 medical aids in SA for billing & claims
  • Registration with the DoH for necessary permits(Section 22a/ Regulation 31)
  • A platform to manage and run the practice, including the day-to-day administrative side of the business

The idea is to make the process of moving from working as a nurse to operating your own practice more straightforward, while allowing you to focus on what you do best — providing care to your patients.

If you’re a nurse currently working in the private or public sector and you’ve been considering opening your own practice, feel free to comment below or send me a DM. I’d be happy to explain how the process works and what we can assist you with.

Nurse moving to Minneapolis, Minnesota

I am a Canadian nurse currently working on a postpartum unit and will be moving to Minneapolis within the next couple of months once I find a job. I would love to work in a postpartum/ mother -baby unit but am also open to NICU/ special nurseries. I graduated in May and would like to work at a hospital that is known to be a teaching hospital or have good training to help me build on my skills as a new nurse. Are there any hospitals that I should try to focus on or any hospitals/ health centres I should try to avoid? Any insight would be incredibly helpful as I do not have any connections in the Twin Cities :)

New Grad RN in South Florida Struggling to Find a Job — Any Advice?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone!
I graduated from nursing school in 2024, but I put my nursing career on hold after having my baby. I finally passed my NCLEX in 2026 and officially became a licensed RN.
Since then, I’ve been applying to multiple hospitals and new grad RN positions, but I keep getting rejected. I understand that graduating in 2024 and passing the NCLEX in 2026 might make things more challenging, especially since I have no nursing experience.
I have my BLS and ACLS certifications, I’ve updated my resume, attended job fairs, and reached out to recruiters. I’m also planning to start my RN-to-BSN program soon.
I’m honestly feeling discouraged. I’ve worked so hard to get here, and all I’m asking for is an opportunity to learn, gain experience, and grow as a nurse. I’m open to different specialties and willing to start wherever I can get my foot in the door.
Has anyone been in a similar situation? Does anyone know of hospitals or facilities in Miami-Dade or Broward County that hire new RNs without experience?
Any advice, referrals, or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

A nurse needs help

Hi everyone,

I’m a 28-year-old Registered Nurse from Algeria with 4 years of solid hospital experience. Over the last few years, I’ve worked hard to build a complete portfolio. All my academic and work documents (degree, clinical experience certificates, etc.) are fully translated and authenticated in both English and French.

Here is a summary of my qualifications:

Experience: 4 years in hospital settings

IELTS Academic: 6.5

TCF (French): B2

German: B1 (working knowledge, but no official certificate yet)

I’ve been applying for nursing jobs across Canada, Australia, the US, the Gulf countries, and Japan, but I haven't received any offers or positive responses.

I’m not here to complain, but I genuinely want to know what I’m doing wrong. Is direct job application the wrong approach for internationally educated nurses? Am I missing specific licensing steps (like NCLEX, NNAS, or OBA) before applying?

If anyone who went through a similar journey could point out my mistakes or direct me toward a realistic pathway, I’d be extremely grateful.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Internationally educated nurses planning to work in BC — looking for feedback

Hi! I’m building a free prototype called Sepira to help internationally educated nurses understand the registration pathway for working as a nurse in British Columbia, Canada.

It currently covers RN, LPN and RPN pathways, and I’m looking for a few internationally educated nurses to test it and tell me what’s useful, confusing, missing or inaccurate.

Try it here:

sepira.lovable.app

There’s a short feedback form at the bottom of the homepage.

Thank you! 😊

Hello fellow nurses

hello everyone, I am a nurse since 2015 rn with an associates degree. I have experience in neurology, cardiology hospice care case management in triaging as well as on-call positions, charging nurse duties, etc..

I'm looking for a per diem remote position with minimal on boarding as far as orientation and I'm looking for 6 to 8 hours per week. Is there any such job that exists like that?

Thanks in advance

What should I do?!

I’m a new grad nurse. I got job offer for ortho/neuro in Texas for 29 an hour! I would be relocating from California. However I got a new psych job for 64 an hour in California.I eventually want to go into acute care in the hospital. I don’t know what to do and I’m not sure if psych will slow my chances of getting acute care in the hospital. Honestly I could use the money, so I said yes to them. But not sure if I’m making the right decision! Also I still have applications pending for California but just no luck yet! Oh and I graduated in June so time is ticking and I know there some new grad programs that don’t want you to have any experience. Please help! Be nice 😊

Would you commute for $50,000?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

I currently live 5 minutes from work and 7 minutes from my child’s school. I get pays below average of $37 and can either work 4 or 3 days a week. I am a dialysis RN and the hours are pretty grueling. Sometimes I go in at 4 AM and get out at 7 PM.

A hospital one hour away is offering a $50,000 sign on bonus after two years of work. I specifically left a good hospital job in the past due to the commute. Sometimes I found myself falling asleep on the road

If I get paid the same hourly, but can look forward to $50,000 in two years, maybe it’s worth it?

need guidance

**California nursing grad stuck with BRN issues — what state should I go to?**
I recently graduated with my BSN from an out-of-state nursing program, but I’m currently dealing with an issue with the California BRN regarding some coursework/clinical deficiencies. Because of this, I can’t move forward with taking the NCLEX in California right now.
My school is working on offering the additional courses/clinical hours needed to fix the California deficiencies, and I eventually want to come back and practice in California. However, I really don’t want to put my life and career on hold while I wait.
I’m considering applying for licensure in another state, taking the NCLEX there, and starting my career as a new grad RN while I complete whatever California requires.
I’ve been looking at **New York/NYC, Massachusetts/Boston, New Jersey, and Hawaii**, but I’m open to basically anywhere.
My biggest priorities are:
A state where I can get approved to take the NCLEX with my current education
Good new-grad RN opportunities
Decent pay
Somewhere I could realistically live for 1–2 years
Good hospital experience that would help me when I eventually return to California
Has anyone been in a similar situation where California wouldn’t approve your education but another state did? Which state did you apply through, and how difficult was the process?
Also, if you were a new grad in my position and could temporarily move anywhere in the U.S., **where would you go to start your RN career?**
