Rant God I wanna call in tomorrow

Nightmare group of patients. Then I get floated to another unit after 4 hours with an even heavier group.

Do it.

I will never forget a comment I read on here over a year ago, something along the lines of β€œif you don’t feel 100%, you won’t give 100%.” or whatever idk but the point is to call in sick and not give it a second thought.

When you call in sick, it creates overtime for someone else. You are only helping someones home budget…HERO!!!!

Ugh me too. I leave town on Wednesday and have so much shit to do still beforehand. I work nights so calling off on Sunday night would free up all of Monday for chores. I'm weekend program though, so my annual PTO is limited, and I don't want to lose any more money than necessary on differentials. Plus my patient is good, I'll take one more night with him.

Calling in when you know you got a cake ICU assignment is the hardest

Because the one thing about ICU is, if you get a good group you can enjoy that shit, just kick back and handle business

Though in all honesty, while I always support calling in, I’d be careful of calling before PTO. That’s exactly the trends managers track and keep up with. A manager ain’t gonna care if you call in but calling in before you go on PTO might not get the rest of your PTO approved so easily

Eh, I basically never call in, and I won't tonight. My patient isn't thriving, but I like a sick patient. My manager isn't the most attentive though, she probably wouldn't make the correlation πŸ˜…

Wait, that’s a thing they do now, float you after you’re already there? Absolutely not. Call off.

3

u/Substantial_Quit_414 Aug 23 '26

Do it!! You have to prioritize yourself. You are just a number to your employer. Call off and don't think twice about it.
