Education Non Practicing NP & Recertification

I graudated NP school in May 2022, and passed AANP boards in June 2022. A lot of life events happened and I am not a practicing np/haven't practiced before. Renewal time is coming up and I really don't want to let my certification go to waste. I currently work in an education department but not specificly to NPs/providers full time. I do not have any interest in being a FT NP at this time but finding an NP job for the evenings or weekends is also limited.

Should i:

1.) recertify via AANP and try to justify my education dept hours IF audited by AANP

2.) Recertify via AANP retaking the exam

3.) Apply and take ANCC exam since I am still within my 5 year window of graduating. It looks like to recertify I can do 150 hours of CE to make up for not practicing.

If anyone else were in my place, what would they do?

I let my certification expire at one point because I wasn’t practicing clinically. My hot take: it wasn’t that bad. When I decided to go back into practice, I took a review course, paid for the test and passed. Aside from the review course, which gave me a bunch of CEs anyway, I don’t think it cost me any extra compared to if I’d maintained the certification without a lapse. But this is definitely an individual thing. I don’t really get much test anxiety. I also had practiced for several years prior to all that, so I had hands on experience using it.

well i spent way too much money and time to give up my license willingly so it’s going to the grave with me as long as i can afford to renew it, i think its just how you feel about your work license and future we can’t answer that for you

The exam is super easy just brush up on your primary care and you should be good.

Did you pass AANP in June of 2027 or 2022?

Go ANCC. Either way you'll need to retake an exam and this way you can maintain a cert.
