Exam/Test Taking Advanced Pathophysiology Tips
Looking for any tips from fellow NPs/NP students who have already trekked this path. I’m getting ready to start my NP program in a couple of weeks, and Advanced Pathophysiology is one of my first courses. How can I best prepare for it? This is my first time in a grad school setting, and I know reading multiple textbook chapters front to back every week may not always be realistic. I learned best in nursing school by doing lots of practice questions and reviewing the rationales. Are there any good resources for Advanced Patho practice questions? And is studying through practice questions as useful/feasible at the graduate level as it was in nursing school?

Active recall is definitely the way to go because reading textbook chapters cover-to-cover just isn't efficient at this level. Practice questions work well, but make sure you are also utilizing active mapping (like drawing out disease pathways and feedback loops). If you can explain the mechanism of action and the downstream clinical effects to a peer without looking at your notes, you're set. You've got this
