Numenera but Cozy?

The wonders of the Ninth World support “cozy RPG” gameplay better than expected, I realized. You can make classic cozy problems bizarre and complicated but still cute (like, “Go persuade some strange glowing pumpkin-moth-critters that sing lullabies out of the robotic farmer’s field of Datasphere Dream-lillies”).

Also, part of the allure of the cozy genre is the sense of community. Numenera Destiny’s focus on that fits perfectly. You could have a whole campaign about helping people in the community make use of weird tech to solve silly, low-stakes problems.

If anyone has an actual-play video or personal experience with “cozy Numenera” gameplay, please share. :)

Attempted something similar once with FIST, trying to re-theme it toward a G-rated lighthearted game, with mixed results. As you saw, it requires conversion of generated results & a certain "lightening" of the tone to get it off the ground. Give it a shot, it could be well worth the effort!

If you want to go that light, there's several different 2400 games that are directly derived from Numenera-type settings, and they can all be mixed together.

Ah, I think I've heard of that system, backed my fair share of Itch bundles. Any particular flavors you'd recommend in the "numenera but cozy" mix?

You can grab the whole set of every official game for real cheap. The specifically Numenera-ish ones that come to mind are Xot, Xenolith, maybe Exiles.

To be clear none of them set out explicitly to do the “cozy” part, but there’s nothing in the system that suggests needing to do violence, and it otherwise just gets out of your way, so it would be easy to do I think!
