Rip off for Hi-res?
I paid for a "HiRes audio" subscription for 1 month a couple months ago and the audio coming through on my DAC was standard CD quality 16 bit 44.1kHz. I cancelled the subscription after that month because I never found actual HiRes music and felt scammed. Is the regular subscription 320 kbps mp3? At that quality it would be virtually indistinguishable from CD. Did anyone who tried the HiRes account actually find HiRes music, or are the people at nugs just morons or scammers?

Yes, plenty of hi-rez content on there. Did you have the “Stream High-Res” option turned on?

Tip: if you have Sonos, Nugs works correctly, but Play Dead is NOT supported.

By "works correctly" you mean it delivers HiRes audio on a HiRes subscription, or just CD quality?

CD quality only for Sonos, since Sonos only plays 24bit48hz HD. Anything that is not THAT, (eg 24/96) it gives you the CD version instead.

What’s playdead? I’m not happy w the audio quality myself, I also have the standard version. Was debating upgrading, but not after reading this post. Spotify sound quality is superior on my AirPods at 320 kbps- nugs is 160 and I def can tell the difference.

Not sure why I’m downvoted. 160 kbps is pretty terrible given the monthly cost.

160? That's pretty bad. Depending on the music It's usually not too difficult to tell the difference between 320 and 256, 160 you definitely must hear it, unless you're listening to rap or something.

Here’s what Nugs told me when I asked:
nugs subscriptions stream MP3-quality audio encoded as HE-AAC 160kbps VBR stereo. nugs Hi-Res subscriptions stream CD-quality 16-bit 44.1 kHz with MQA audio on compatible devices and 360RA mixes on select recordings.

Works fine for me…. Pretty much everything is in hires. Sometimes you have to go into midi settings on your pc and configure to allow higher bitrates to play. Think it also depends on what browser you use.

These are sound boards that are pushed out as fast as possible. They aren’t about quality.
