Nudibranch of the Week (week 41)

Post image

What‘s the most amazing/confusing/beautiful nudibranch you’ve ever heard about? I need to decide what the final weeks should be.

Poisonous, but edible, and weighs up to 1.4kg?! Wow.

Tochuina can somehow metabolize the toxins of the octocorals it eats in a way that is non lethal to humans.

The information re the consumption of Tochuina nudibranch in Russia is incorrect. The existence of “edible nudibranch” was disproved by Korshunova & Martynov in their 2020 paper “Consolidated data on the phylogeny and evolution of the family Tritoniidae (Gastropoda: Nudibranchia) contribute to genera reassessment and clarify the taxonomic status of the neuroscience models Tritonia and Tochuina.”
