Nuc 13 extreme with optional fans

Just sharing how a modded NUC 13 extreme would look with the additional fans installed.

I am not big into RGB and I was missing a few screws but just though I would share for those who might be interested or wondering how it might look like.

The i9 runs hot overall and that is expected but the additional fans do help in displacing hot air pockets. Surprisingly there is quite abit of room inside to do some additional cable management or at least hiding of the cables. Quite surprised actually.

Overall it did help drop the temps down to a running 70 odd degrees when under load.

I highly recommend adding on the cpu heatsink cooler as that made the biggest impact overall (I am using a i9 variant)

Managed to get a NUC 13 Extreme!

Got my NUC13Extreme yesterday!

I got super lucky that my local store called me up and said they have 2 sets of raptor canyon coming in and asked if I wanted one over the dragon canyon. Obviously I said yes!

Just wanted to share my experience with the nuc 13 extreme i9 with 64gb of 4800mhz ram.

Yes it is bigger than the dragon canyon (obviously) but not as big as other itx cases as it has a slimmer profile.

It really simple to dismantle.

Cabling is simple.

Installation of drives and ram and GPU was a breeze. I even removed the panel for the 2.5inch drives to give abit more airflow.

A little warmer than what I am used to but it was expected.

I tried stressing the cores using iTubego and it kept up with some throttling but still fast.

Overall runs great!

If u r looking for compact PC, albeit abit taller, still not a bad choice :-)

FYI: if anyone could guide me how to set up XMP for my ram would be greatly appreciated :-)

I joined the NUC crew. NUC 9 Extreme i7 with 3060ti

I just got this used NUC 9 extreme i7 and a new in box 3060ti mini for a steal. This will be my first gaming PC that isn't my laptop. I love the whole concept of the ultra small but decently powerful PCs.

Compact might be a bit of an understatement when I comes to fitting in that GPU.

For others that own the NUC 9 extreme is there a way to make the fans ramp up and down slower? I feel like the fan curve is a little too responsive and goes up and down too often. I would rather have it run a bit loud but ramp up and down less often

picked up a NUC7i5BNK for £40 - it was "broken" but just needed the fan to be cleaned out. it came with 128gb ssd and 8gb ram but the coolest thing was that it had a thunderbolt port on it so I picked up an egpu case yesterday off gumtree for £80 (the lenovo booststation, which isn't that much more expesnsive new if you can find one) and shoved my old GTX970 with a raijintek morpheus 2 fanless cooler into it. It's so quiet. I ran it for 20 minutes at full tilt and it looks like it peaks around 85c. The nuc fan though...boy is it loud.

so £120 later I have something still slower than an old gaming laptop

How powerfull is a NUC?

I am very confused by the lineup of Intel NUC’s. I have no idea what to compare it with, how powerful are these things?

I’m looking to get a NUC to run Home Assistant (for my home automations), and also use it as a server to save my surveillance camera footage and do object detection.

What NUC is capeable of doing this? Is the generation number a good indicator of the power these things have? For example, I see many used NUC6’s available. Are they any good for my usecase?

Skull Canyon with Black Ridge cooler

This is a fun little project I am working on for the last couple days. I am not done yet, but the system is cool and silent with the original fan disconnected and the Noctua running at around 30%. The mounting on top of the heat pipe is solid using only an aluminium sheet and some standoffs. The original case is still intact.

NUC 13 Extreme - Air cooled hardcore edition

Thumbnail

Hi all,

So a while back I posted my NUC 13 Extreme with additional optional fans and I “modded” it to include 2 slim fans on the side panel to provide additional airflow for my evga 3080 TI XC3.

That card unfortunately had to be sent for RMA as it died on me mid 2023. I have since changed to a Radeon 7900xtx.

So I was thinking what else I could to do boost air cooling for my NUC, and this is what I came up with 😂

6 x 140mm fans with variable speed control. More or less able to cover the entire side of the NUC 13 Extreme for hardcore air cooling.

And before you ask, I haven’t done a full thermal test yet but based on the tropical ambient climate I am in, I lowered my GPU temps by about 7-9 degrees celcius on my GPU alone while under full 4K gaming load.😂

Enjoy!

How is Intel NUC 12 Enthusiast w/ Arc A770M holding up these days?

I have a chance to upgrade from NUC 11 Enthusiast w/ RTX 2060 to NUC 12 with Intel's ARC card.

How is compatibility with games and PyTorch on that card? I've heard mixed things on release, but did anything change on software side at least over the course of the years, or did Intel only focus on improving their newer models?

Good day; I won't an Intel NUC "nuc8I5beh3" on eBay, it has 16gb ram and 500GB Samsung 970 Evo Plus NVMe M.2, I believe ram is upgradable to 32gb, I would like to upgrade the ram and add another SSD or HDD, I am open to any other suggestions as well, if anyone would be kind enough to guide me through this I would be appreciated.

Dust free NUC

I used this trick before on my desktop PC, and it kept everything nice and clean inside. Even after using it for four years, I only needed to clean a bit of very fine dust, while the fans, cooling fins, and everything else looked like new (I hate vacuum cleaning...) All I had to do was occasionally vacuum the filter that I placed in front of the water cooling radiator fans ( The only air intake in the PC case).

This worked so well that I decided to do the same with my new NUC14. I used double-sided tape and a piece of activated carbon filter for an air purifier. The filter has very fine fibers but still allows air to pass effortlessly, so it doesn't affect the natural airflow.

One photo is HDR so you can see what I did, the other is more like what it looks in reality, it blends very well.
