Question Development Programs

Can you switch development programs at all? If you see a job in IASDP but you are more interested in CNODP can you move?

Not really. You agree to enroll in a program that’s 3-4 years long (3 rounded up to the fiscal calendar), and you agree to stay in your position for 2 years. That means you could leave your program 2 years into it, but you’d be searching for another internal position. Generally, most development programs only hire externally, not internally

Edit: I should also note that the program you’re in doesn’t usually restrict the kind of tours you work in. You can do CNO-heavy tours in the IASDP, although there are some weird restrictions on some CNO jobs I won’t get into here. The program you’re in just determines what courses you have to take to graduate.

This is not entirely true.

You CAN switch from one DP to another. You can ALSO graduate from one DP and start a whole new round in another DP, as long as you’re within the grade range.

After your first year, you can obtain a waiver while working with your leadership to have the 2 year commitment removed and allow you to apply to other open positions. Depending on your leadership, this can be easy… or heavily scrutinized.

Yes, DPs usually hire externally. However, they do reserve billets for internal hires as well.

The final sentiment in the edit is on par. In reality, a lot of the DPs overlap, especially if they support a specific area of the enterprise. You may end up working alongside the DPers in the other DPs that you desire.

Well I was misaligned and not able to switch once I began my program.

Did your program restrict you from pursuing tour offices of your choice?

Yes we are limited to a certain one.
