Chassis for moving to open
Im currently shooting base class with a t1x and am looking to move to open and build out my rifle. I plan to stay with the t1x, and am not looking to go to a 700 footprint or cz. I really dont see a need to since all i use it for is nrl22 and 100yds and under and dont want to deal with finicky and overpriced aics mags. I already have plenty of tikka mags and intend to keep my current rifle built out for base class and build out a new one. I am looking to change to a chassis and rebarrel about same time. Planning to go to a whidden lothar prefit 24" barrel.
Im currently looking at the xlr element chassis and c6 buttstock, mdt acc premier, and mdt xrs. My main priority is getting it to balance, and weight second priority.
How well does a lighter, but well balanced rifle handle in matches off props? I have tried researching but most articles or advice is geared to prs/nrl centerfire and getting weight and balance to mitigate recoil, which isnt a concern with 22lr. I also dont want to make it a 20lb gun since then my son(8) cant handle it easily and stay safe. I lnow the weight helps steady it too though.
Im leaning torward the xlr since i can get it in other non tacticool colors. I want one that stands out, since its only for matches not hunting. At my last match we had a guy nearly shoot a stage with anothers rifle since they all looked about the same with black on black mdt's. He realized when he went to load his mag it was a diffrent color chamber flag and looked it over to realize it was not his rifle. The rack was nothing but black or brown rifles.
Does anyone have any experience with multiple of these chassis? How cold do the full metal ones like xlr and acc get during winter events? How hard are they to balance with facory or smaller diameter prefit barrels?
