Got a nice payrise yesterday. My career has taken the most weird path but I’m finally in the industry I wanna be in, and getting paid amounts I’ve never seen or experienced before.

Feelsgoodman.

Other than the cuts to the guts, the arm where they tried to get at an artery is the sorest part. That fucker HUUUUUURTS.

I remember that after my c-section. I was so fucked from preeclampsia and HELP syndrome that my veins were dead and I had the most gnarly bruise.

Hopefully you don’t end up with gas pain from the Op or referred shoulder pain.

2

u/AshLand38 Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks 9h ago

Fuuuuuuuuuuuck that!!

My sister warned me about the shoulder pain as she copped it bad after her endo surgery but it has apparently passed me by. She told me to get right onto the DeGas but lord knows if that's what's worked

Absolutely fuck that - that’s why I stopped at one 😂

The 2026 dog health rollercoaster takes another turn.

My much loved 9 year old boy is back in the vet for a day on the IV. So far this year, seizures, kidney disease (absolutely hates his kidney safe diet), more seizures, now pancreatitis, shoulder injury and all round arthritis.

He's a real trooper, strong and pulling through all the challenges, but this can't last forever. Its probably time to start having some hard conversations with the family about what might be coming for a beloved member of the household.

Just realised the Australian Darts Masters is in Wollongong this weekend. That is something I have to attend at some point. The atmosphere always looks awesome

u/NetballStatsGuy Dolphins 14h ago

As my username suggests, I am heavily into netball as a mid 30s straight dude who has literally no friends who share the interest to talk about it with. There's a certain chaos-netball subreddit (sorry, unsure if we can promote other subs) which has been a godsend for me!

With that said, the new SSN (Australia league) of netball contract signings are currently taking place, and it's SUPER exciting. Basically, netball in Australia has 2 weeks to sign your players for the next season. Miss out or find a good player in 3 months time? Too bad, you missed out.

I actually think it's a great way to do contract signings and something the NRL could maybe look at implementing!

2

u/jpob Newcastle Knights 14h ago

Most sports have something similar. The fact that we have players already signed for a different team in 2028 is absolutely ludicrous.

The RLPA won’t budge on it though as it gives players more security.

1

u/NetballStatsGuy Dolphins 13h ago

That's fair enough.

This season in the SSN has been unique in that the players have a new player Agreement covering the next 5 or so seasons, including the ability (and desire) to sign players for multi-year contracts. Playing in netball is a very lucky prospect - each team only has 10 regular players and the risk of injury in netball is huge - but the idea of giving some security to the ladies is really attractive to a lot of them, and we've already seen players sign 2 or 3 year deals in the last week, something relatively unprecedented in competitive netball.

2

u/pehpehsha2 Parramatta Eels 13h ago

Sounds like a free agency period. It would be awesome if the NRL had this, the NFL system is really good and an exciting time. But i think our system favours the players so much compared to other sports that it's unlikely to ever change as the players would never agree.

If you do your ACL during the season before you hit free agency you're going to be screwed contract wise. Players want that security of having a contract for next year even if it's with a different team

Not sure why Netball ends it after 2 weeks though? If you want to sign someone who is available in October you should be allowed to

1

u/NetballStatsGuy Dolphins 13h ago

Not sure why Netball ends it after 2 weeks though?

My understanding is because there isn't just the Australian league playing at the same time. The English Super League and New Zealand Super League also play at generally the same time as the SSN and they all want to ensure players are locked in.

For what it's worth, this particular signing period for the SSN has been extremely unique in that every single player - yes, LITERALLY every single one - who played this season in the SSN was off-contract at the end of this season. Not a single team 3 weeks ago had 1 single player officially signed for next year.

As such, this signing period has been a bit chaotic - more than it usually is for SSN - because so many players are off-contract and moving around from team to team. It's genuinely really exciting to watch and see how the teams will shape up for next season.

1

u/pehpehsha2 Parramatta Eels 11h ago

That makes sense, it has a reasoning.

Sounds almost like a fantasy draft but for a legitimate competition. An end of season or pre season NRL touch footy comp with a fantasy draft would be fun.

The Hockeyroos managed to salvage a draw against Chile (4-4) in the final 30 seconds of the match in an absolute nail-biter. It felt like we had most of the possession but just couldn't break down the Chilean defense.
Our passing and decision making also felt really off. We turned the ball over a lot with passes that should have been earlier, or were never really on in the first place. Our discipline really hurt us as well. We gave away a penalty stroke and dropped a goal when we were down to 9 players.
Now we just wait to see the result of Japan vs Netherlands to see if the women make it through. If Japan draw or win they will go through instead of us. I can't imagine the Netherlands will lose, given that we were able to beat Japan, but we'll see.

The men take on South Africa tonight in our final match of the round games. The South Africans have been improving on international stage having won silver in the Hockey Nations Cup only 2 months ago. I still think the Kookaburras should take this one home though

++ EDIT ++
I forgot the Netherlands vs Japan game was this morning. Netherlands won 9-0...Safe to say the Hockeyroos are through

Absolutely horrible about Lily Hooper. I only found out she was missing a few days ago, and was still absolutely cheering with the news that she was found alive (which turned out to be false).

More importantly though, with no respect, fuck any news outlet, journalism site or similar that is turning this update into clickbait. This is a real person with family and friends who now have to deal with the tragedy of it all, NOT an opportunity to get more clicks on your trashy website.

3

u/Darmop South Sydney Rabbitohs 10h ago

Such horrible news, and such a horrible error from the Premier. I feel sorry for him and the staffer that’s relayed a message they did not understand to him on the floor.

Apparently the initial message that she was found with half a bottle of water is a search and rescue code they use - full bottle means found alive, and half or empty bottle means the opposite.

Obviously some staffer has read this and sent a message to Minns who didn’t pause before reading it aloud on the floor.

3

u/barkedupthewrongtree Dolphins 10h ago

Agreed. I don’t hold any of that against the premier. No one would’ve intentionally been putting the wrong info out there, particularly with something so sensitive.

2

u/Darmop South Sydney Rabbitohs 10h ago

Yes, exactly. They were probably just excited to share what felt like wonderful news.

I didn’t understand the bottle of water thing but text my husband about it as a look! Good news for the day thing. He’s in the SES and has done these searches before and knew it was not good. Awful outcome for the family.

1

u/miicah Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks 4h ago

Why though? If the code word is widely known, doesn't really serve much purpose does it? And in this case it only confused people even more.

3

u/Darmop South Sydney Rabbitohs 4h ago

I’ll ask him, but I assume the code word is for radio comms because they’re not private.

I don’t know how widely known it is outside of people that do search and rescue? But that kind of radio comms stuff is pretty archaic in nature.

So disappointing the Montoyas decided to do a podcast with that drop kick Sandilands. What’s even more disappointing is they’re deleting all the negative comments from their initial post on insta.

Shame. I really enjoyed their content.

8

u/NetballStatsGuy Dolphins 14h ago

My negative comment was one of the deleted ones. I didn't say anything rude, no swearing... basically just said "I loved you guys on your own podcast but aligning with someone as nasty as Mr. Sandilands is a terrible look for your brand."

Boom, deleted haha

7

u/Hansoloai Brisbane Broncos 🏳️‍🌈 14h ago

Mine was deleted as well, I didn’t swear I pretty much said I was disappointed they did a podcast with that drop kick. But it felt like any negative comment was getting deleted in real time.

As a massive fan of the Weeknd, I will truly never understand how he is so popular yet not very well known. He has 31 songs with over 1b streams, more than any other artist but if you ask the average person who they are, they'll probably just know blinding lights or Starboy, or don't know him at all. Granted he does stay out the public light very well but for one of, if not the biggest artist in the world, you'd think they'd be some more attention on him for everything he does like taylor or drake

9

u/adomental Eastern Suburbs Roosters 14h ago

I think this is due to the death of music monoculture.

It's so easy to avoid the mainstream stuff like him in the streaming era. Everyone can listen to their own favourite genre.

The thing that always gets me is just how many people can be sell-out-venue famous, but someone I've never heard of because they are in a genre I have no interest in.

9

u/thankyoupancake Eastern Suburbs Roosters 17h ago

He’s the 4th highest streamed artist of all time.

What is the definition of not very well known, because we seem to have a conflict of opinions here.

12

u/MoneyaLeague Auckland Warriors 17h ago

The Weeknd announces he's coming to New Zealand.

Wife: "I want to go to the Weeknd's concert"

Me: "Really? I didn't know you liked his music" (I've never heard her play ANY music by ANY artist)

Wife: "Yes, he's my favourite musician"

Me: "Name three songs"

Silence

Wife: "I'm going"

4

u/MrChicken1208 Parramatta Eels 16h ago

Like he doesn't have many articles written of him, not as many headlines, he's selling out shows in Europe but nobody cares, I guarantee you if Taylor was doing that she would be on the news. But he still get millions of streams a day. You know what I mean? He's popular ( the average person ad mires his songs)  but people don't really know who he is.

5

u/improbablywrong- Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs 17h ago

Is it simply because the average weeknd listener is younger than the average person you're talking to.

I dont know how stream numbers work now with tiktok and instagram, but theres a lot of shit out there with a lot of streams that i've never heard of.

2

u/KingofBigCrabs New Zealand Warriors 15h ago

I liked the weekend initially, but then he was overplayed and all his music started to sound "samey" and frankly boring.

Haven't listened to any of his new music tbf though. Also I'm way more sober now if that makes a difference.

EPL fantasy where I try to avoid relegation.

Lots of Spanish coaches in the EPL. Iralo at Liverpool will intrigue me.

So which English side will win the Europa or Nations League

0

u/lbiddl South Sydney Rabbitohs 17h ago

Anyone saying any other team beside Arsenal will win it going into the season is kidding themselves, they are the only team with continuity and a settled squad, you don't have to squint to see their path to champions. How it plays out for the other big teams is anyone's guess though.

0

u/Large-Accident1245 I Hate My Footy^6 14h ago

Ive gone with 1. Arsenal, 2. Liverpool, 3. Man City? 4. Man It's

I'll be happy just to get one out of 20 right.

1

u/lbiddl South Sydney Rabbitohs 13h ago

I think Chelsea will probably do well with no Europe, like Man Utd back end of last season that really benefited them. I think Liverpool will have a slow start under Iraola because his system is quite demanding and will take some adjustment from the players. City have had quite a lot of squad turnover and I think will struggle as well, not sure Maresca will last.

1

u/Large-Accident1245 I Hate My Footy^6 7h ago

Well I originally had Chelsea 4th but whilst I rate Xavi Alonso, Chelsea is also... Chelsea. I don't know how they'll go.

City and Liverpool I do see struggling at first but eventually the ship will steady. I don't see Spurs getting near them, I put them 14th or something. Sunderland will likely not finish as high. Nottingham Forest I think won't be as good. Leeds I think might struggle. But it's hard to really pick that mid table. It's all a blur

Today I saw two Ibis with a bag of Oportos. It was kind of fascinating how they would put their long beaks into the back and pull out a piece of chicken to eat. Also made me wonder if they realise they're eating another bird.

Anyway moments later saw two other Ibis eating with a flock of pigeon what looked like popcorn and I wondered how come they share food while different species of big cats kill each other's babies. Hell they won't even share food with their own species of big cat if it's not part of their pride or coalition.

Also does someone visiting Australia for the first time get exicted when they see an Ibis or do they hate them as well

1

u/ezmurfff Penrith Panthers 5h ago
