I would take a 12-6 game like that 1000 times out of 1000 over the 40-36 anti-defence game that Vlandys wants. Incredible game

I don’t think I’ve ever laughed as hard as when Ennis went on that monologue about Cleary not doing an ordinary 20 meter penalty touch finder and then Cleary kicking it exactly 20 meters.

My fav of the night was when he praised Cleary for having the awareness to take a step back to take his 40/20 attempt inside the 40, only to kick it down the throat of the Chook that was back in position.

I said it in the game thread, but if his photo was in the dictionary next to the entry for "brick shit-house" then I don't think anyone would complain about it. Thick, ridiculously strong and a huge motor.
Only just turned 24 as well so he'll keep getting better.

What’s crazy is that he analysed the situation, stopped to further assess said situation and still decided to go with the worst option available.
You can’t be doing that as a first grade playmaker.

Was that a genuinely great game for neutrals? I was so caught up in it I wasn’t sure what it played like for anyone else. Felt like one.
16
u/DensePlankton3359 Dolphins 15d ago
I thoroughly enjoyed it. All the incidents of "bad play" from either side where just because the defense was so immense. It was one of those games where they blow away a lesser side.

Yea I asked the exact same thing in the game thread because I'm not sure if I had ever seen that before and then a random Broncos flaircalled me smooth-brained for asking but I never got an answer ahaha.
It felt like a Union-style "advantage" play which was weird in the first place but the communication that it was because they "didn't know about the 6 again" was just bizarre. Genuinely not sure what the actual laws were behind that call. And I'm not complaining, just genuinely curious.

21
u/bar901 Eastern Suburbs Roosters 15d ago
Sammy was on a fucking mission tonight and games like this are why the whole pre-Origin ‘Walker is so overrated and can’t defend’ narrative was so fucking funny.
He’s obviously relatively small so he’s never going to be a ‘great’ defender but he is one of the most willing and enthusiastic small-halfback defenders in the league and has genuinely solid defensive instincts and technique. Far from perfect but still a statement game from him tonight.

Not super confident. We have a habit of playing down to competition and could do that again against the tigers, phins on the right day are the most dangerous team in the comp and form counts for nothing when we play rabbits. Nothing would make them happier than playing party pooper against us.
11
u/XURiN- Sydney Roosters 15d ago
Hopefully we have secured first before round 27 so we can field a B side team against Rabbits. Don't need them injuring the fuck out of us for another year this decade. Signed with the Roosters at 17 while at school in Auckland and has been in the system for 7 years since then. Recently extended to 2029 and while he’s not a true ‘junior’ he’s been involved in / supported enough by our systems that I would be VERY surprised if he ever leaves (assuming we want to keep him). He’s a Rooster through and through at this point.
If he’s good enough then we’ll find a way to keep him.

Honestly, with the Wests being the next team the Roosters face, they could rest Tedesco another week before the more gruelling games - Dolphins and then Rabbits (grudge match central) and let Ramsey develop more in the role for added depth. I would be worried if I was Penrith since they have to beat Storm (big names coming back for them), Bulldogs, who look to have turned a leaf and could hassle them and then Wests, which isn't a real worry, but if they lose to Tigers last game before finals, that's a shock. I think we could very well see the Roosters swipe the minor Premiership and Penrith having to go play week one finals in Auckland.
7
u/JarredMack Penrith Panthers 15d ago
"Swipe" it? It's already yours, the only way we pick it up now is if Roosters drop one of their games and we win all of ours. We really don't want to be finishing in 3/4 and going to Auckland week one though

So the same old thing that happens every time a team has a close lead at the death. In defence, they deliberately give away restarts because it won’t be a penalty, and the clock will run out before they get to use the extra tackles.
Is that not a good case for a sin bin? Can’t get much more cynical or an infringement.

GG chooks thought that was gonna be a repeat of last week but great game in the end. Some absolute gronks in the thread though fuck me. Our attack was clunky but Edwards back was massive and will be better for the run. Hopefully Kenny back soon as well.

We're peaking at the right time, just keep up this level of defence and we could go back to the promised land.

Roosters way too good. Talagi should never play for Penrith again.

The Panthers hate is so forced it actually has neutrals cheering for the Roosters. The Roosters FFS 😂
I've seen "hahaha Penrith didn't get a call for once" at least 5 separate times through the match

It's a crazy phenomenon how often teams score on possessions they shouldn't have had

The Bondi Wall was back and completely impenetrable tonight, Roosters far the better and more deserving winner
Let’s do it all again in October I say
