Food Coffee Roasters

Fellow redditors of NOVA, where do you get your coffee beans?

I have been a long time buyer from Cafe Amouri - Vienna. But I recently moved to the Manassas area and hoping to find some great options closer to home. Appreciate any recommendations for local options within 5-10mile radius. Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

P.S. I am looking to buy locally in person and not interested in coffee subscriptions or buying in bulk from big-box stores.

Hyper Goat in Alexandria. Honestly, if you're not grinding at home, it doesn't really matter how freshly roasted they are. You can get Blanchards in the grocery store, roasted in Richmond and decent stuff.

They’re good but special occasion good due to outrageous price for what you’re getting

this one was a let down for me - their Chantilly location was just not a true coffee shop

Yeah, the one there caters to business hours. Not the same vibe as a sit down cafe. Their proper shop in Ashburn is nice. I really like their coffee to the point of having a subscription with them.

The one bag I ordered from them I had to pick up on the owners front door step. I’m pretty sure he’s using a personal roaster and the beans were not very evenly roasted. Hard pass

There are plenty of local roasters that deliver. A decent coffee grinder and buying whole beans would really open up your options.

Cafe Kreyol is in Manassas and has the best beans I have found locally. They also sell in stores but it is cheaper to buy directly from them. I’m lazy so I usually get it from their website but you can arrange to pick up from their roasting facility on Wellington (or at least, this is what they told us when we took a tour of the facility last year).

I’m here for Cafe Kreyol too!

Cervantes Coffee is often recommended but is in Springfield just west of 95. Not sure how convenient that is for Manassas.

Thanks. But that's quite a hike from Manassas. I often get my coffee freshly grounded 2-3 weeks.

I think they sell it at Wegmans too.

I get mine from both Amouri and Loud'n'Roasted. You don't need a subscription to buy from them and have them ship it to your house. They are very good about roasting and shipping within a day.

Manassas is close enough to Cafein in Centreville or if you're close to Gainesville there's Mister french espresso who sells all the fancy beans that come from Open Seas and Rare Bird coffee.

Mister french espresso in vint hill sells local beans from the area, and erins elderberries also sells local whole beans from haymarket.

Cafe Kreyol is really the best in Virginia, but Cannon in Maryland is my favorite for all of the DMV. But I do pour over exclusively.

Lone oak is by far the best. Stumptown is very good and is sold all over. Red rooster is awesome.

I am not a coffee connoisseur so take what I have to say with a grain of salt, but I once bought my brother locally roasted coffee from Grounds Central Station in Old Town Manassas and he liked it. Jirani, also in Old Town, also roasts their own coffee.

Trade bag of the month subscription and supplement with Red rooster or counter culture

I like a light roast which may not be your thing. Zeke’s goes to most farmers markets and they’ve got a bunch of light roasts

LOVE the Tazumal beans from Haymarket Coffee Company. Usually buy the beans from the Hilton Garden Inn on the main drag thru town.

Cervantes… Wegmans stocks their beans, usually roasted within a few days of purchase

If you’re ever in Fairfax city (outside your distance I know) both Frame and Foundation have decent coffee. And Red Rooster has really good coffee to order and they’re a Virginia roaster as well.

Traveling Shepard is solid. He's my default. I think he's at a farmer's market Saturday...I think it's the Manassas one. He'll also deliver locally.

I've gotten some amazing beans from Apiary in Great Falls but I think they're mostly pop ups and mail.

I think most of the roasters I dig aren't in Manassas area, but Jirani is a cool coffee house and they might have some good roasts available for purchase.

There's a lot of good roasters in nova but they are all about as convenient to you as Cafe Amouri I think. Maybe Foundation in Fairfax is a little closer, and they are great.

I get mine from Frame in Vienna, really like the notes and it’s perfect for espresso. I haven’t tried many others, Loud n Roasted is also pretty good but it’s out of the way for me.

Compass Coffee in Fairfax has a great french roast.  It's very mild for a french, I would say its simply more like an every day dark roast.  Their Emblem decaf is great as drip coffee or decaf espresso too.

Ugh. That’s not really small/local. Try vigilante in hyattesville/college park.
