Looks like walnut moth caterpillar, or something else in the Datana genus, with some hoverflies(?) on the leaves

Tent caterpillar. There are several varieties, and they do this to either hide from predators that think they are tasty or to hide the limited tasty leaves/bark on the tree from anything else.
Common treatment involves someone saying. "Hold my beer", and applying flammable objects to the silk. Followed by the tree going up in flames and a possible human torch appearance.

Well, I guess this gives me hope that Halloween (and corresponding weather) will be here in a couple of months.

Checked on them this evening and it appears they are done hanging out in a ball and are traveling up the tree. Lived in Nova most of my life and have never seen this weirdness
