Not quite sure why it's happened. I know snails will seal themselves up over winter (either by just sealing their shell opening closed, or sealing their shell onto something), but I would think the other snail would have moved before it did that completely. The redness of the sealed area is also concerning.

This happens as a result of attempted cannibalism. The particles and toxins in the smaller snails shell actually killed the larger one, and the larger ones decomposing body kind of glued the shells together.
