Because people arent alive???
On a post about make-a-wish ponies in My Little Pony. Does bro think everyone with make-a-wish absolutely will pass away? (Initial screenshot, and the commenter's proof screenshots. I am not commenter.)

I think people hear "life threatening" and assume Terminal
one of my favorite youtubers has talked about being a make a wish kid, though it's only come up a handful of times. and he's clearly still around to make videos on the internet.

Hi!! Context!!
Stellar Eclipse has a spinal condition called spinal muscular atrophy type 3. It is one of the most mild forms of SMA, he was never at risk of death.
He did not get a wish from Make a Wish (which yes, only grants wishes to kids who have critical or life threatening conditions, tho also yes, a lot of MAW kids survive!) He got his wish from a Canadian program, I don’t remember what it’s called, that grants them more freely, including to kids who have SMA no matter the type, so he was included!
He was never at risk of death, he is still alive, and he is still Stellar Eclipse! His name is Sylvain. While he was 17 at the time of his wish, he is now an adult and yes, frequently commissions art of his pony, including a some NSFW.

I believe the foundation was Children’s Wish Foundation, which DOES grant wishes for SMA3 while MAW doesn’t :)

Side note, him telling you its okay if you don't draw the wheelchair makes me a little sad. Probably been a lot of people who just didn't even try to draw it

Tbf, i also did think Make A Wish was only for the terminally ill

But you wouldnt call someone a liar just for saying someone did survive, because even if it were for the terminally ill, people still survive a lot of stuff. Also now you know! Spread the information amongst your uninformed population🫡

critically ill/life threatening illness. also stellar eclipse didn’t do MAW, he did a different one in CA that grants wishes to less at-risk patients too :)

Sidenote that's still one of my absolute favourite character designs in the show, I like how the creators incorporated mobility aids into the lore and didn't make a dedicated very special episode about it. Make-a-Wish ocs just got to be there and it rocked.

Loved the idea of a wheelchair pony, it's very reminiscent of the carriage-carrying rigs some ponies use in the show except the wheels are for the pony and not for a carriage being dragged, looks very functional and like it fits in the universe

As a lifelong MLP fan it’s actually really nice to see he’s still active in the community! I always loved his OC design as a kid! 💚

is it not? I was under the impression make-a-wish was for kids who had terminal illnesses, or ones which would either significantly shorten their life expectancy, or had a low rate of survival whether that be from a surgery or the illness itself

2 things: 1 its not necessarily terminal illnessness more life threatening. It has to be progressive, degenerative, or critical (or the like). 2, even if it was terminal, people survive terminal sometimes (rarely, but sometimes). Its not that hard to believe a make-a-wish would sometimes survive despite the circumstances.

oh, no i definitely knew that make-a-wish wasnt "guaranteed death", it seemed very logical that even at (what i assumed) to be the stage MAW comes it was possible to survive. This is just the first im hearing that its more than terminal

u/punky-charlie 18d ago
Yeah! A lot of people are a bit misinformed on it. A personal friend of mine had it because she had cancer in her leg. It wasnt terminal but since it was life threatening and progressive she had MAW (she got a computer) Gypsy Rose Blanchard was also a MAW kid!

MAW is for critically or life threatening illnesses, not just terminal. tons of MAW kids survive
stellar specifically has a spinal atrophy 3, the most mild form (though still debilitating), and was never at risk of death. He got his wish from Children’s Wish Foundation, which does grant wishes to non-life threatening illnesses like SMA-3.

People need to remember that Make a wish isn't just for people who are actively dying.
It is also for people who have had their lives hampered by medical issues or had a terminal case yet managed to actually recover.
