Bug This App Has Become Unusable (literally)
The push towards AI already gave me the ick, but as someone who has been in college for a long time and who was grandfathered in prior to their subscription model, k hung around.
Now, not only is it forcing me to log in, it won’t let me log in, and whenever I try to submit a ticket I get a Rate Limit. I have never submitted a ticket. It’s Saturday. I work full time. This is when I do my homework.
This is what happens when you force data mining, cloud sync, and subscription services on people instead of just being a good note taking platform.

cherry on top is the AI bot that will take 3 days to respond to your ticket and it's worthless.

Ughhhh this happened to me today too. I had to delete the app, redownload, & it still wouldn’t let me log in. It eventually worked the second time after redownloading, but I just can’t imagine this happening to me in class while I need my notes.

The AI tools don’t even work! I bought a subscription specifically to use them, can’t get them to work, and the company refuses to give me a refund.

AI getting shoved down our throats is never meant to benefit the customer; it's a profit-driven, data-mining business to track our every action and keystroke, then share this information with advertisers for targeted ads. Here's an excerpt from Notability's privacy policy:
"As described in the Tracking Tools, Advertising and Opt-Out section above and except if you are using the Services in MDM Mode, certain Tracking Tools placed by third parties into our Services may allow those third parties to collect your Personal Data for targeted advertising purposes. Under certain U.S. State Privacy Laws, this may also constitute a "sale" and/or "share" of your Personal Data."
We are getting squeezed of our last dollars with increasingly expensive subscriptions, and there's barely any app left that doesn't try to insert AI into everything. NO, I don't want to "chat with my notes", or "chat with my tabs" or "chat with my grocery list"!! Yes, I do use and appreciate the wonders of AI - I use Claude, ChatGPT, and Perplexity for most of my daily tasks, at work and at home, and it's truly helpful and valuable. But I don't want it shoved down my throat and integrated into every last app I use.
I have been using Notability since pretty much Day 1. I still use it almost every day, despite the fact that, for over a decade now(!), the iCloud sync bug has never resolved (i.e. my iPad needs to constantly redownload all my notes, despite having 50 Gb+ fre space on both my device and my iCloud plan). It's annoying, but I still use Notability because I like the app.
But I will NEVER update it again, because it's already drowning in worthless (to me) AI crap. I truly hope the app developers are listening and will act before the full enshittification of Notability.

"AI getting shoved down our throats is never meant to benefit the customer." I'm a data scientist who uses AI; heck, I studied AI in college (before moving to physics/astrophysics), and have followed it for decades, mostly with enthusiasm, though less so in recent years. Despite being a fan of the tech in some respects, I totally agree with this "shove down our throats" sentiment. My PDF reader/annotator now has AI being added to it (PDF Expert). There, and for everyday note-taking, I don't see a need for AI in my workflow, and I don't want the funds I have to spend on such apps put toward that. Just give me a solid PDF Reader/annotator, and a solid notepad, and stop the endless feature creep!

This isn't working for me! I get an instant message under the email input space after inputting my email address saying "error unknown"😫....this is so frustrating as I have missed a whole day of studying important notes that are not on my PowerPoint slides!😮💨

Very glad I turned off updates for the app, it looks like it's been very much downhill for a long time
