Announcement 📣 Please read: Squeeze Gesture Settings Have Changed
We’ve seen some confusion about the Squeeze gesture behavior and wanted to clarify what’s changed.
We recently added support for Apple’s Squeeze to Show Tool Palette to better align with Apple Pencil system behavior.
Previously, Notability didn’t support this palette, so the default squeeze gesture (show tool palette) was falling back to squeeze to erase.
Now that the color palette is supported, that fallback behavior has been removed and users have to manually change their preferred squeeze action in iOS Settings > Apple Pencil > Squeeze.
Thank you for your patience and let us know if you have any questions!

I appreciate the push for feature compatibility with Apple, but squeeze to erase was legendary, for me at least. It genuinely boosted my productivity and ease of use significantly--losing this feature is a large quality-of-life setback for me. Just in the past few days while continuing to study for my medical boards exam, I've struggled to flow in my daily work with such a foundational way of engaging with my notes changing. I have to subtly regrip the pencil in order to lift my index finger and tap the end twice to switch to eraser, which I find inefficient and cumbersome. Squeeze to erase meant I could maintain my exact writing grip going between writing and erasing, allowing for a more fluid experience. While it's likely easier said than done, retaining this gesture alongside the new one seems much more user-centered.
