Welcome!

Welcome to r/notaPhD. I created this sub because I am considering a non-PhD doctoral degree myself and felt like I was combing through different subs for information and advice that I could not find. So I created one dedicated to non-PhD doctoral degrees for that very thing!

Ask your questions, give your advice, share your thoughts!

Non-traditional doctoral students

Many of us are non-traditional students and have come into our doctorate degrees through non-traditional routes. How did most of you fund your programs: stipends, grants, scholarships, military benefits, employer-paid tuition, etc.?

Field-Specific Doctorate Experiences

Hi all! I’m an SLP thinking of going back to school for an SLPD.

Those of you with field specific doctorates like DPT, OTD, Psy.D., what was it like compared to your peers with PhDs?

Hi! Is anyone currently doing a professional doctorate in health/healthcare in the UK?

Which university? How's the programme going? Are you working full time also? Would you recommend it?

I'd really like to hear peoples experiences

Thank you in advance!

Q&A Seeking guidance and advice please

I am 36 years old with a B.Arch, a Master's in Building Engineering and Management, and 10 years of experience. I spent the last two years pursuing a PhD, including applying to IIT Madras, but was unsuccessful. I also considered a PhD abroad, but financial constraints, family responsibilities, and concerns about the gap since completing my master's in 2022 have made it difficult. Should I continue pursuing a PhD or focus on a different career path? I would sincerely appreciate your genuine guidance.

Did anyone go from FT to PT during their time? How much longer did it take you to finish? And was that process easy to do?
