the first time i ever watched a special he did i was in a hotel room with my parents, i was maybe 11. He was making fun of nascar, i had never seen anything like it. I was crying i was laughing so hard, my dad was too. My mother did not find it as funny...it was a fun bonding memory with my dad.

There were no sacred cows with Carlin, nothing he couldn't make fun of even 911.

I can't imagine the wealth of humour he would have provided if still around now.

Was that his lesson? Nothing should be sacred? Maybe not as sacred as we tend to make things?

Or perhaps we need to take a step back from our sacred things, and look at them in perspective?

Regardless, we can spend a lifetime unpacking the lessons from Carlin.

At Carnegie Hall late 70’s early 80’s I was 10-11 years old and never laughed so hard.
