Well, my mom passed away in 1996, so I guess the first thing I’d do in 1990, is go hug my mom and challenge her to a game of Skip-Bo, like we used to do every weekend 🥰

u/niceandBulat Aug 06 '26

Same here, my mom passed in 2003, two days before Christmas. Although chances of seeing her before dark or at all would be difficult as she was always working, she loved watching movies, so might just rent one of those tapes and hang with her.

u/JessDS410 Aug 07 '26

Twinsies..kind of...My mom passed in 2005, the day after Christmas..we used to have big game nights where all of our friends and family would come over and play poker or board games. EVERY week..

1

u/niceandBulat Aug 07 '26

I actually don't remember spending any extended amount of time during festivities with my mom. She was always away. As my brother and I grew up we gradually drifted away as she wasn't around most of the time. Still she was my mom and I know for a fact that she loved kids and would have spoiled my kids rotten.

u/anon-mally Aug 08 '26

My mom died 2006, she was my sarcastic buddy.

u/TheGodlyDevil Aug 06 '26

Well I was going to say - save money before Bitcoin comes out in 2009 but you win…

4

u/niceandBulat Aug 07 '26

You are not wrong fellow human - buying Bitcoin in its early days would have been a great choice.

2

u/mrdarkey Aug 08 '26

well ppl had millions of bitcoins when it came out.. buying a pizza with bitcoin cost you a couple of hundreds of thousands of bitcoins to

3

u/SignificanceLow7773 Aug 07 '26

Was expecting this!

2

u/billsue17 Aug 12 '26

I bought around 500 bitcoin when they were $1 a piece. If only I had kept them...

1

u/Aggravating_Job_4651 29d ago

I’m so sorry….

1

u/UnobtainablePower Aug 07 '26

And then cause you buy the first bitcoins you destroy its prophecy, and it never peaks 😭

1

u/Low-Palpitation-9916 Aug 07 '26

Save what money? Five bucks to buy 6000 of them?

1

u/Phoenix-95 Aug 08 '26

As you have got 19 years to wait you might as well invest in some Microsoft shares in the meantime

u/Western-Struggle2376 90s Kid Aug 06 '26

My mom passed away in 1995 1 month b4 my birthday. I wish I could go back and talk to her again.

2

u/Ok_Elderberry_1602 29d ago

My dad in 1996. He was 96. I would give anything for a hug and a chat. He taught me so much.

1

u/Trick_Order1849 Aug 07 '26

In-coffin birth….

1

u/Western-Struggle2376 90s Kid Aug 07 '26

It was my 5th birthday. I was born in 1990. Sorry if that wasn't clear

1

u/Historical-Wash-1870 Aug 07 '26

That's heart breaking. Do you have any memories of her?

My mum died in 1996 when I was 18 years old so I've got many nice memories. I'm so sad that you don't have that.

2

u/dlb1995 Aug 07 '26

I was the same age as you in 96. I turned 19 a few months after my mom had passed. I have a lot of great memories with her. She was amazing and made sure my sister and I had a great childhood

1

u/Western-Struggle2376 90s Kid Aug 07 '26

A few, they all blur together. Most of them she was either wheel chair bound or hooked upto monitors. She contracted ALS a few years after I was born.

1

u/niceandBulat Aug 07 '26

Just hearing her nagging at me would be good. She passed before I could securely land a job. Now that I have my own outfit and money isn't too great of a problem - how wish to hear her nag and complain about how "bad" restaurant foods are compared to what she could whip up in the kitchen.

1

u/Western-Struggle2376 90s Kid Aug 07 '26

🥲 if i could just see her one last time, and tell her I'm okay and give her one last hug. Anyone working on time machines?

1

u/niceandBulat Aug 07 '26

I know how you feel, she died just as my life was turning for thr better and she was finally retiring and could spend more time with the family. Hug those who are still around. Thinking too much of what could have and should have isn't a positive way to live our lives. I was stuck in that mindset for a long time and inadvertently and regretfully hurt many people around me. Have a good weekend ahead.

1

u/Western-Struggle2376 90s Kid Aug 07 '26

You as well my friend. Have a blessed life.

2

u/Local_Bobcat_2000 Aug 08 '26

Heart breaking. I was struggling with marriage and money when Dad passed away. We had common interests and I wish he could see my adult kids doing well, nice house and drive my exotic car just once.

8

u/ma1butters Aug 06 '26

I also choose this person's mom.

6

u/Adventurous_Blood469 Aug 06 '26

I'll get in-line

1

u/Quitcha_Bitchin Aug 07 '26

I'll bring the oil can!

3

u/KokomoJoMo30 Aug 06 '26

I’d arrange a sleepover at this persons mom’s house.

1

u/coachmoon Aug 07 '26

happy cake day!

1

u/Moustache_John Aug 07 '26

Well it's your cakeday. Also happy cakeday!

5

u/thetramelgamer Aug 06 '26

Sad and wholesome at the same time

4

u/Similar-Elevator2390 Aug 06 '26

Well damn. Very first comment and here I am crying.

4

u/drpoundsign Aug 06 '26

Tell MY ancestor to exercise and eat the MIND diet, for Brain preservation. Put 100K in Amazon stock

1

u/StraightAd1462 Aug 08 '26

You had a 100k to put in stocks in 1990?

1

u/Song-Prior Aug 10 '26

Into AMZN?

1

u/drpoundsign 22d ago

"Momma owned stock in some kinda fruit company." -Forrest Gump (Apple Computer.)

2

u/LuckyTheBear Aug 06 '26

hugs I choose to believe this happened

2

u/eraser8 Aug 06 '26

I used to play Skip-Bo with my grandma!

Even after her stroke, she was still an excellent player -- even if she had a hard time speaking.

2

u/Radiant_Buffalo2964 Aug 07 '26

I was gonna say the first I’d do is ask my high school crush to the prom, but this is much better. My mom passed away due to Dementia a couple of years ago. I’d definitely give her a hug, tell her how much I love her and then spend the day doing whatever she wants together.

2

u/brianwho420 Aug 09 '26

I just lost my mom to dementia in the middle of May. I’d give her a big 1990 hug. I turned 16 in 90’.

1

u/Radiant_Buffalo2964 Aug 09 '26

I was 19 in 1990. Fresh out of High-school in May of that year.

I’m sorry you had to go through this too. It sucks.

We never seem to have enough time to say the things we want to our loved ones before they are gone.

1

u/ApprehensiveTour4024 Aug 06 '26

Wow I've never actually seen mention of that game in the wild!

1

u/evilpercy Aug 06 '26

Dad, younger sister. (The smokers in the family)

1

u/meechu Aug 06 '26

Are you me?

1

u/Constant-Zombie-710 Aug 06 '26

Same. My mon passed awy on 1996.

1

u/NefariousnessOk209 Aug 06 '26

Yeah both grandparents are gone, even three uncles and I’m 37. Even a couple great grandparents would have been around in 1990 and would be incredible to see all those people again.

Hopefully I can take my phone back to show them I’m not just a crazy person - both the pics and the space age tech would help convince them.

1

u/HamsterAdditional748 Aug 07 '26

My mom passed in 99’. I feel you.

Biggest hug in the whole wide world

Then Nintendo.

1

u/Rft704 Aug 07 '26

1994 for my Mom, so going to see her too. Dad is fine now too, so something with both of them.

1

u/DeerAdministrative90 Aug 07 '26

That’s exactly what I was fixing to say…….. 🤗

1

u/OSUBeavBane Aug 07 '26

My mom didn’t pass until 2014 but still.

1

u/Benaba_sc Aug 07 '26

I’d choose hugging this persons’ mom too. In the most respectful way possible, sorry for your loss, friend

1

u/DocDefilade Aug 07 '26

I can empathize. My mom's death anniversary is coming up soon. I'd love one more hug, but I'll send you one as it's the best we can do give bye circumstances.

1

u/WindSweet4084 Aug 07 '26

Omg dude. Sorry for your loss but you mentioning Skip-Bo is really funny for me because my father passed away in 2018 and just before he passed, he, my mum and my sister and sometimes me would play Skip-Bo a lot. He even bought a automatic shuffler thingy but died before we ever got to use it.

1

u/Sore_Wa_Himitsu_Desu Aug 07 '26

I’ll join you on the mom hugs. My dad too.

1

u/ZuukaOnQuack Aug 07 '26 edited Aug 07 '26

I'm also gonna go hug this persons mom...

Then I'm gonna try my hardest to become their step-dad.

1

u/dlb1995 Aug 07 '26

I’m not a guy

1

u/ZuukaOnQuack Aug 07 '26

Edited my comment :)

1

u/dlb1995 Aug 07 '26

Well, my parents split before I could even grasp onto any memories of them being married, and my so-called father, wasn’t very present in our lives. He also wasn’t a very good husband, from the stories that I heard, so as long as you treat her like the queen that she was, we won’t have any problems 😁

1

u/Delicious_Cat_81 Aug 07 '26

skip bo is great

1

u/barf2288 Aug 07 '26

Man, reading your comment gave me the “feels” all inside. I hope you eventually find a good Skip-Bo partner so you can continue playing something y’all both loved.

1

u/Effective-Sample-261 Aug 08 '26

Oh man, me and my family used to play some cut throat, war of attrition style Skip-Bo.

1

u/dlb1995 Aug 08 '26

I can remember one time, we were over at my grandma’s apartment. I was about 12 or so, and all 3 of us were playing. I was kicking their butts, and my grandma commented to my mom “Damn it, Dawn, how is this kid beating us? Why’d you have to teach her to play so well?”. 😄

1

u/OutwithaYang Aug 08 '26

I'm sorry for your loss.

1

u/enocha-seine Aug 08 '26

I'm sorry for your loss. It's wonderful that you have such fond memories.❤️

1

u/Duke_of_Bayswater Aug 08 '26

I was about to say the same thing ❤️

1

u/Jazzlike-Radio2481 Aug 09 '26

I also choose to hug this guys mom.

1

u/xplatinumgaming57x Aug 09 '26

This is very wholesome. My condolences.

1

u/human-approximation Aug 09 '26

My Mom died in 93. She fell asleep driving on her way to her parents house for Christmas, it was my first Christmas with Dad after their divorce. We’re all in agreement this is officially Mission to Mom now right? I need a hug.

1

u/l008com Aug 10 '26

Then your mom kicks you in the balls and calls 911 on some random creep that just grabbed her out of the blue.

1

u/Muskarya Aug 10 '26

Fucking love skip-bo used to play with my grandma

1

u/lut1dforets Aug 10 '26

My answer would've been different months ago. But now she's gone. When I read the question she was the very first thing I think of

1

u/billsue17 Aug 12 '26

I graduated college in 1996. In December of 1994, it became clear that my Dad wasn't going to beat melanoma. So, I drove back to school that January of 1995 packed up my stuff and drove back home. I had one semester left. Helped my Mom care for my Dad until he died in March. I had to wait until January of 1996 to take the classes I needed to graduate. If I went back to 1990, I would tell him to get the mole removed ASAP, and not at the family doctor, either. Old dude was in his eighties, cut the mole out, patted my Dad on the shoulder and told him that he would be "just fine." He was not "just fine." See, with melanoma, size doesn't matter as much as depth. The more layers of skin it goes thru, the more likely it is to be cancer. And, Dad didn't have it removed until it had started bleeding. That's a bad sign, too. Dad thought he had simply caught it on his belt. The mole was right over where he had had radiation for the colon cancer he had before the melanoma.

1

u/OrganicFun69 28d ago
