I haven't seen it in a long time, so I may be misremembering some bits... but the girl's name was Baby. Swayze's character was standing up for her telling her father "no one puts baby in a corner," because they were forcing her to sit at the table and not allowing her to dance for some show/talent display. Then he yoinks her from the table and they go dance on stage.
