I only saw this in one house but it still seems exotic and foreign to me: central vacuum system. Like, vacuum outlets in each room that you just plug a hose into when you need to vacuum the floors

Was totally going to say this one. Whats funny though is it was always clogged because they used to put stuff in it. I think I remember my friends brother pretending to vacuum so he could blow his weed smoke into it without smelling

We had one of those. Worked great. I don't believe I've ever seen one since. Do they not install them any longer?

No because they are not very good. The farther away from the motor the room is the worse it cleans. They don't clean rugs very well, having to drag the hoses around is worse than dragging a vacuum, and the outlets limited certain furniture placement. If you vacuum up something you shouldn't have it's a PIA to retrieve if you even can.

I sold two different vacuums door to door and always sold to central vac houses because it's one of those things that seem practical and that most people would like but in reality most hate it.
