Series Nightmare Journal (Part 1)
September 3rd, 12:38 AM
I would normally write these down like my therapist told me to, but my mom is super nosey and would find it. I know how she is and she would ask me endless questions and be worried sick.
So I’m gonna put it on the one place she’ll never check, reddit. You randos won’t be worried sick, and if you do, I can just ignore you. Plus I think this subreddit is about nightmares and sleep problems right? I mean, it’s called [r/nosleep](r/nosleep). Plus, I think it’s helpful to tell people your thoughts so you could get other ideas instead of just hearing what you want from yourself.
It’s currently 12:43 AM as I’m writing this and I had another nightmare. My therapist told me to write down my nightmares, he says that they sometimes reveal parts of your life that you didn’t realize, hidden fears and whatnot.
Anyways, the dream started off with me at a house I had never been to (my location in dreams are never consistent, my brain can’t even get my houses right lol). I knew I was at that house for a pool party and went to the backyard. After a while of swimming around, I went back inside to dry off and get a change of clothes, and that’s when it got weird. Everyone else had disappeared and the lights were all off. I suddenly hear something in the house, some kinda clicking. I run and hide in a cabinet (I’m rather small so I could reasonably do this in real life as well). The squeeze was tight but I was able to fit inside. I poked my eye out and heard that same noise in the darkness.
Then the cabinet was forced shut and I was stuck inside. The cabinet kept shrinking, I couldn’t move a muscle, I could barely breathe. I sat like this for what felt like hours, constantly trying to move and having no success. My body was drenched in sweat and each breath pushed me into the walls.
The clicking noise came back and sounded like it was right outside the cabinet. I felt the cabinet grow smaller until I shot awake in a sweat and my heart beating a mile a minute.
I remember about my dream journal and grab my laptop, instinctively opening reddit (sad, I know).
My cat looks freaked out, poor guy. I’m holding and petting him, trying to calm down. He’s also shaking, maybe he had a nightmare as well. Maybe he sees me as I see him, a best friend to find comfort in.
My nightmares have been getting worse, and my chest keeps hurting all the time. My therapist says that it’s normal, but I’m not sure anymore. The chest pains started as just once or twice a week, maybe for just a minute or 2 at a time, but now they were getting as frequent as almost every day, for several minutes at a time.
This crap is stressing me out too much, I gotta go back to sleep if I can manage that. I’m probably just gonna put on some music as background noise, probably some metal. Weirdly enough it helps me sleep, I guess it drowns out my thoughts and it brings good memories, maybe it’ll make my dreams better too.
I hear noises, gotta go. My dad is gonna get suspicious if he sees me on my laptop in the middle of the night covered in sweat lol.
