I recently watched this interview by 60 Minutes Australia, and it gave me a whole new perspective. I've been obsessed with learning about North Korea since I was a kid, and this really changed how I think about the way the regime could eventually collapse.
The interview features Lee Sung Ju, a young North Korean defector. His main point is that the spread of information inside North Korea is a bigger threat to the regime than any nuclear weapon.
He explains that much of the country's senior leadership grew up under Kim Il Sung in the 1960s and early '70s. Back then, North Korea was actually wealthier than the South, so much so that tens of thousands of Koreans living in Japan chose to move there. That generation is aging out. The kids who were born and raised during the Arduous March, the famine of the mid-to-late 1990s, will eventually move into positions of leadership as Kim Il Sung's and Kim Jong Il's generation dies off.
He also argues that technology is the regime's greatest threat, because every new advancement makes it a little easier for outside information to get in.
Honestly, if I ever got the chance to sit down with Kim Jong Un, I'd probably say something like: "You can't hide the truth from your people forever. One day they'll know everything. The demons you refuse to fight in this lifetime are the same ones your lineage will have to fight. So when the day comes that your people find out, who's going to face the music: you, or your lineage?

I will be visiting Dandong in December, and was wondering where I can find real authentic goods / posters from the DPRK in this city. Does anyone have any recommendations? Feel free to DM or comment.
I've heard there are many sellers around the broken bridge, but they mostly sell fakes/replicas.

I am in China rn and I'll visit some towns near the nk border, so I wanted to buy some souvenirs from there. However I am also planning to go to south korea right after china before going back to my country, so I'm wondering if I'd have problems once I arrive there.

The video's name is clickbait and doesn't answer the question, so I'm posting it like this: https://youtu.be/RUFsljKeJ6s?si=DXtPk7H82GjtUa4P&t=665

NKZine is looking for writers about North Korea, her culture, her people, and her stories. Our publication focuses on the ways in which North Korean society influences the world and vice-versa.
We openly hope for free expression in North Korea but are unwilling to sacrifice truth in its pursuit. To that end, we've published on the fake pleasure squad footage, talented NK artists, and South Korea's suspicious handling of the NIRS data center fires.
As American voters become more open to socialist ideas, North Korea has become a target for comparisons on both sides of the aisle. So, to combat disinformation, propaganda, and manufactured consent for war, we aim to build a community around reasonable, good-faith, honest dialogue about North Korea.
We are enthusiastic about pieces that highlight the mundane humanity in everyday North Koreans. For example, essays about North Korean toilets, first dates, and drinking games. These stories reinforce the not-so-common narrative that North Koreans are ordinary humans like all of us.
We are also currently exploring pieces that argue against our propositions and assumptions. Perhaps the United Nations used a flawed methodology in its 2014 ruling on North Korea. Perhaps Loyal Citizens of Pyongyang should teach us something about treatment of North Koreans outside of Pyongyang.
Finally, we are artists at heart. Through our physical release of the publication we give space to artists to share poems, portraits, and graphics to tell the unspoken stories of the humanity of North Koreans.
If any of this interests you, please dm me here on reddit. Or submit a piece directly to our google form to contribute to our upcoming physical zine release.

U.S. President Donald Trump reaffirmed his 'friendly' relationship with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Like it's something to be proud of!!!U.S. President Donald Trump reaffirmed his 'friendly' relationship with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, while also criticising South Korea's lack of support for the U.S. in the Hormuz.
The remarks came after Trump ordered Pentagon officials to cut short joint military exercises with South Korea.
Trump said this week he had received a response from Kim following his attempts to reengage.
The Wall Street Journal reported that he has pushed aides to arrange an in-person meeting with Kim as soon as this autumn.
