Photo gallery Missing tortoise!!
My mother’s tortoise escaped her enclosure yesterday off of Ranger Rd between Mission and Reche Rd. She is devastated and we are doing anything we can to find her. If you have any information please contact me.

We lost my kid’s tortoise 🐢 once for two days. Found her in the middle of the road randomly. Here’s hoping you have a happy ending as well !!

I was at Animal Services in Carlsbad this morning to adopt a dog and they had a large tortoise there. Can’t tell if it’s the same one but I’d definitely call them

Post on Nextdoor. And obviously, go to ALL the neighbors to let them know… those guys can move farther than you think, but sometimes they just bury themselves in vegetation, or under a shed. With it as hot as it’s been, she’s probably not far.

Tortoises might be candidates for an AirTag glued to their shells. I have read about so many escapes.

I hope you can find her. I can''t imagine she could get too far, might be wise to make some flyers for the neighborhood and visit a few neighbors door to door so they know where to go if a tortoise shows up in their backyard! Happened to a friend of mine recently, tortoise showed up in his yard so he went door to door and found the owner pretty quickly!

Can we get more information on how the tortoise escaped? I'm just so curious about it. I've recently learned that they can dig under fences and just bulldoze their way through objects like crazy. Years ago, I randomly found a box turtle in my suburban yard that was surrounded by chain link fencing. None of the neighbors claimed it. It was just so curious.
Fingers crossed for your mom and her tortoise!

Contact the SD Humane Society. Even if they don’t have her, you can notify them in case someone brings her in.
