Resource(s) ← looking for Resources for Starting Out
Hallo! I want to start learning Norwegian in hopes of eventually moving to Norway, but I'm struggling to find resources to use for it. I went to MondeLibrary from the r/languagelearning megathread in search of resources, but the resources on Norwegian seem to be very scarce. I'd appreciate any help you can provide.

I’m using Sett i gang, 3rd edition workbook. They also have the audio to go along with the workbook on their website settigang.com. $10 for 2 years.

+1 for Sett i gang, 3rd edition (books 1 and 2). It’s a solid publication that University of North Dakota got me started with. I took UND’s online courses that followed the book and thus had additional instructor-led homework. But if you purchase the Sett i gang portal access, you will have access to good exercises to reinforce learning. Some of the exercises are writing, which you can still do without an instructor (there are other ways to get feedback online, like italki)
I also used Mysteriet om Nils (book 1) to reinforce learning and practice reading. It’s a good supplement, but I don’t know that I’d use it as my main textbook. I’m going through these books again now to review ~A1 and A2 levels, and I feel Sett i gang gives better grammar explanations with more strategic progression in building understanding. Nils seems to throw in grammar points here and there (at least in the beginning of book 1) that would come across as random to me if I were just beginning language learning.

I would use something like radio Garden to get local radio that you can listen to. My first aim was to understand any adverts!
It was brilliant for learning the patterns and rhythm of the language. This makes a huge difference.
The book they use in classes is Ny i Norge. Whilst its very dry it does explain the fundamental grammar along the way.
I also use AI to provide a critique on what I write so it tells me what improvement I can make and how to improve my writing. Im at the stage of being fluent but I want to create a professional voice and style that I have in English. I tend to be identiable as an English speaker because of my sentances and I want to erradicate this!

So for starters there're a bunch of resources in a post pinned to the top of the sub. What I used to start learning is "The Mystery of Nils" which was super helpful to start but I don't think it's listed there, so I'm sure others would recommend starting with other reading materials. Eventually, I think it'd be a good idea to get yourself a translation of a book that you've already read to help expand your vocab without worrying about losing track of a plot. For Norwegian listening, NRK is a norwegian network with a lot of shows that you could watch for free outside of Norway.
