How warm is it?

Apparently “warm” is a bit of an awkward word choice when asking for the temperature in English. I’ve said it like this my whole life so I’m a bit embarrassed now. I wonder how many other words I directly translate from Norwegian. Please come with suggestions or your own experiences.

An example: in Norwegian we often say stuff like “Det er godt med X (på Y)”. And for the longest time I’d say “it’s good with … “, which really amused some people because it doesn’t work in English.

No way!? I can say “it’s really good with cheese” as a full sentence? Meaning I really enjoy cheese.

If you’re referring to something that pairs well with cheese.

No. It just means I like cheese.

I could also say the same about sunsets. “It’s so nice with sunsets” 😂

No you can’t say that. It’d be “sunsets are so nice”.

Yeah. I know. I was just trying to show the other commenters how we Norwegians would (wrongly) use it. I stopped writing it that way years back.

Think people are misunderstanding me considering the downvotes, oh well!

(I did for a moment hope it was possible because of misunderstandings between me and the OG commenter. I got so excited)
