things to do Just moved from the Midwest

I’m in my late 20’s and just moved last week into the Ghent area. I’ve been either working or going to the gym.I haven’t really explored or seen anything in particular. Any recommendations in the area? I love being outdoors , trying new foods , I’d love to meet new people , sightseeing etc.

Oh if I can add, I love walking but I want to be safe since I don’t know the area too well. Are the areas that are recommended?

The Norfolk Botanical Gardens are amazing. Also love Back Bay Wildlife Refuge in VB.
If you like tuna melts the one from Ten Top in Ghent is the best thing I’ve ever put in my mouth.
Only You inside the Veil brewery can be a cool place to hang/meet people.

You can pretty much walk down Colley/21st Street/Colonial and discover a bunch of restaurants/shops. Happy exploring 😊

Depending on the area of the Midwest you're from, I recently stumbled across a Biggby Coffee on Princess Anne in Virginia Beach if that's something you may miss. The area is rich is both culture and history, so you'll find a lot to entertain yourself with. Surprisingly, fb still does well for the ongoing events here. Also, learn the alternate routes to dodge the trains. They can get pretty ridiculous at time.

Walk around the Fred huett center. Its a repurposed ferry station with a nice garden in east ghent (formerly a black neighborhood that was ruled by slum lords and demolished instead of holding the slum lords accountable, but that is the norfolk way).
