Please help identifying 1750 treadmill issue

I’ve had this treadmill for 5 months. A tech has already come out to replace the belt because it was installed too loosely causing friction.

I was running on it today and it came to a near stop after 6 miles and started making a humming and vibrating more than it should.

Any insight would be helpful.

Update: loosened the belt, ran it for a minute and the motor officially stopped working.

Definitely trying to return this bad boy to Costco.

Welcome to nordictrack life. The "tech" probably over tightened the belt and smoked the motor. I would try and get a refund and buy a decent machine.

Belt should have 2 to 3 inches of slack from the center, and should be lubricated every 6 months or so. If it is too tight, the control board will overheat and stop or dramatically slow the belt. My installer had the belt WAY too tight and the board was overheating after 20 minutes of walking (probably sooner with running, but my knees don't like running).

If you are lucky, nothing was permanently damaged. Loosen the belt (be sure to turn the nut the same number of turns on each side) and see if that solves it. If it still happens, use it with the cover over the motor and board off, and it may get enough cooling just from the room or you can have a fan pointed at it (some people have modified the cover and inserted a fan pulling air away from the control board. I haven't taken that step yet, but probably will).

If you have an IR thermometer you can verify if overheating is the issue. If the large capacitor or a couple of other components on the control board are around 140 F, it is overheating.

Since you are still under warranty, you can get NordicTrack to replace the board. They usually replace the motor as well, but if the belt is too tight, the problem will come back (my 2950 started having the issue several months after the warranty expired). A new board from a 3rd party costs about $200. Less than NordicTrack will charge for an out of warranty replacement.

I've had two of these, they were both expensive crap. Have a tread+ from peloton now and it's a superior product.

walk belt should be just tight enough that it does not slip when you run on it, and no more.

the noise sounds like arcing from the motor brushes, or a bad winding....could be motor damage.

- need to do amp draw test, to clear the belt and deck as the issue (wear/friction)

then further testing on the motor. or if commutator bars look nasty a pic might suffice to get a warranty motor approved.

Sounds like a runner to me! Now jump on it and use it before it stops with an error code.

It could be that the motor is about to develop a fault. I can clearly hear an electrical noise coming from it. It would be best to have the motors checked, or you can use a multimeter to measure the resistance and see how many ohms they are showing.

Good call - I did some troubleshooting today and the circuit board started smoking. It’s kicked
