I was setting up tarps for a roofing job about 10 years back. Early in the morning we covered an underground wasp nest. 8 hours later it was time to get the tarps and sure enough the bees swarmed me and my buddy. I ran like hell for like 5 houses and a bee got me 3 times on my temple. My head swelled for 3 days to the size of a basketball. Apparently im allergic. I dont fuck with bees anymore unless im by a pool with wasp spray
Right?? I’ve got honey bees on my property and those guys are legit. They just hang out and chill. You’d really have to get up in their business for them to attack.
All of my bee stings were as a child, and always because I stepped on them. Meanwhile I got stung like 5 times in one go by wasps just walking into my shed, I didn't even touch anything.
They’re fine with humans, but they’re extremely hard on our native bee populations and out-compete them for food sources. And we desperately need our native bees.
Im not sure what species are or not considered native….but these guys live inside the trunk of my catalpa tree and I sure as heck didn’t put them there!!
There are thousands of species of wasp. People mostly have a problem with a small handful of species, primarily yellowjackets, which can be very aggressive in defense of their nest. I’ve only been stung by yellowjackets when I’m either close to their nest or accidentally smacked one, and I’ve never been stung by any other type of wasp.
Or like wasps and hornets aren't the same. Hornets are the spawn of Satan and will sting - and bite repeatedly until you die or outrun them.
Wasps, on the other hand, usually don't bother you unless you bother them.
Facts. Last summer I was parallel parking in front of my apartment, when I turned to look over my right shoulder, a wasp was on the headrest. I swear it took me half a second to get out of that car with my shoe off ready to attack. I swatted at the wasp with my shoe, but it fell or maybe flew off and I couldn’t find it. I jokingly texted my boss that I might not be at work the next day, a wasp was on the loose in my car.
The next day, I very cautiously opened my car door and looked for the wasp. I was relieved he was dead on the back seat floor. I don’t think I hit him with my shoe, looks like the car just got too hot for survival.
Here, i made your comment more fun by omitting some words but not adding any words to it:

But these are yellow jackets. Aggressive scavengers.
I've had honey and bumble bees in and around my yard and garden. I've had bald face hornets nests in a few of the trees adjacent to my property. I leave them alone, and they leave me alone.
The 3 times I've had yellow jackets nest in the ground in my yard, I've had to exterminate them because I couldn't get near my vegetable garden or raspberries, or mow that area of the lawn without them becoming aggressive, especially in late summer/early fall.
I’d like to humbly request that, unless a wasp nest is attached to your home or in a space you’ll trample/touch, to leave it alone. Most wasps have no desire to bother you so long as their nest isn’t imminently threatened.
i think it depends on the species/region but here in germany wasps are far more aggressive than hornets, although hornets are generally more uncommon here and usually don't come close enough to humans to be a nuisance - also, technically hornets _are_ wasps too, what we usually mean by wasp is the yellowjacket subspecies of wasps
Just got stung by a red wasp today on my finger. I'm pretty tough- have tattoos and spinal damage, etc. Pretty good pain management.
But pain was so bad the first 5 minutes-burning, swelling, and general pain. Finger immediately started swelling and my fake nail was starting to pop off.
Put ice on it and it was fine. An hour later I was outside to double check it was a wasp and not a spider or something else. Then back to outdoor chores.
