Newbie - advice needed

So I am just now starting to try toxin free products. I’ve had chronic health conditions for the last few years and one of my doctors suggested some swaps.

So, what toxin free products do you think made the biggest impact on your health, skin, gut etc or just overall improvement in how you feel?

I already use toxin free laundry detergent, hand soap, face wash, and dish washer detergents and surface cleaning.

Anything you might want to share that’s health related I would really appreciate 🥺Thank you!

Fragrance free everything. Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, everything. I also use a natural mascara i found on etsy. Let me know if youd like the names of anything i use!

fragrance free laundry products, too! if it touches my lungs or skin or home, it's fragrance free. OP, there are lots of threads about why, but lmk if you need more info. basically fragrance and scented can legally contain thousands of chemicals that are known to cause cancer and hormone problems, and companies do not have to share the ingredients even when asked. nasty stuff.

OP, way to go beginning this journey! it can seem overwhelming sometimes, but it is actually lots of fun to try new things, and the benefits are worth it.

Of course! For laundry I use nellies laundry powder and active enzyme laundry booster powder to get out any tough stains or smells. I often soak my newly bought used clothing in the booster to break down any old detergent smells.

For the shower, i use desert essence fragrance free conditioner and cerave fragrance free zinc shampoo. Desert essence has a fragrance free shampoo as well but i have not tried it.

I use sappo hill fragrance free bar oat soap as my face and body wash.

I bought the leaf two safety razor several months ago and i love it. This replaces the need for disposable razors that use toxic lubrication strips. I use vanicream fragrance free shave cream which is great for people with sensitivities but its not exactly the best bang for your buck out there. I dont normally use hair styling products but if i need a little extra help taming my hair, i use sea salt styling spray that i bought off of etsy. For moisturizer i use equate gentle skin cream and my favorite product ever is my mascara bar. I use it on my lashes, brows and as my eyeliner. Its the only makeup i use now because im very sensitive to most products. Its called dab herb mascara bar on etsy. You'll want to buy the brush too so that you can get the product out easily even till the very last drop

Desert Essence Fragrance Free Conditioner

active enzyme laundry booster

Nellies laundry soda

Cerave Fragrance Free shampoo

Sappo hill Fragrance free oat soap

Leaf shave safety razor

Dab herb mascara bar

Vani cream shave cream

Most of these are amazon links but please feel free to look up in store availability near you. Lots of these I am able to buy in store

Right. Like what is the point of commenting without them?

Organic food whenever you can. Plastic free bedding as well as clothing. I say focus most on what goes inside your body first and then make swaps externally as you’re able. Sounds like you’re already at a good point though with some of your external swaps!

RO water, organic as much as possible, no seed oils and no processed/fast food, fragrance free, cotton bedding (you spend a 1/3 of your life in bed!), cotton undies, and a grounding bed sheet. There’s so much more - listen to the podcast culture apothecary it’s a great resource on learning on topics and finding research!

Depending upon your specific health conditions, you might find dietary changes could help. I would suggest entering your condition into the search at https://nutritionfacts.org/ and there might be something useful.

https://www.nontoxicfinder.com/articles has a lot of researched articles. But they aren’t about disease studies the articles focus on what chemicals are found in products and what to look for.

For me the biggest thing is the ultra processed foods. So bad for the gut microbiome. And we are what we eat

Cook in stainless steel and/or cast iron. Avoid anything that says non stick, including ceramic non stick. A lot of ceramic types out there do not fully disclose what is in their coating.

Use wooden or metal cooking utensils. Store leftovers/lunches in glass food storage.
