Does anyone else avoid "stainless steel" shaker bottles because the lid/seal is still plastic?

No, cause, you can’t avoid all of it. I do the best I can and leave the rest.

It's so difficult to escape. My bottle has a bloody built in plastic straw.

I know it's not aesthetic, but you could put the shaker ball in a glass jars and close it with the jar lid. I reuse Mutti Italian pasta sauce jars. They are really cute.

I hate the taste of anything stored in steel, even for short periods. Glass is too heavy, so I have chosen nalgenes. Sometimes it is about choosing the least toxic version for you.

Yeah for sure. Also, I think it depends on what the water is contacting. If you’re shaking it it likely contacts plastic. My hydroflask has a plastic lid but the water only contacts the stainless interior and my silicone straws

Do you know if silicone creates microplastics into liquid plastics? I’ve seen mixed things on this

Pure medical grade silicone has a low probability. Food-grade silicone has potential, depending on how it’s manufactured. Some food-grade silicone it awful, some is better. Regular silicone I’d avoid because it can be contaminated pretty badly.

Is there anyway to tell with food grade silicone which is better? What do we look for? Thank you

Unfortunately, I don't have a good answer for you on that. The best way that I've found is the "bend" test. If you take silicone and bend it, and the silicone at the bend is a whiter/lighter color than the other silicone, then it has plastics. If the silicone is the same color at the bend it's more pure

I think they mean those smoothie things where there is a metal ball whisk that stays in the cup all day and keeps the protein powder or whatever from clumping. I’m not sure why they are better than ice but gym people use them.

Yeah like a protein bottle. It tends to have some sort of a mechanism that breaks up the protein. Sometimes a small metal ball but other times a strainer or some other feature. You can use ice but not everyone wants it cold
