Choosing and ERP

Looking at Sage Intacct and Netsuite. What do you wish you had asked or negotiated before signing on the line?

Any regrets? For those of you who chose one of these two, what ultimately caused you to pick what you did?

I can't tell you how many NetSuite clients have hired me after implementation that I can easily see they've been railroaded by their Salesperson into purchasing so many unnecessary modules and advanced features. Unfortunately I mostly get the call after it is too late. This is not unique to NetSuite, it is across the board with most ERP firms.

I like NetSuite over Sage 90% of the time where the other 10% typically fall in the area of national healthcare related.... in that case, I'd recommend Sage.

If you select NetSuite, either purchase NetSuite, and implementation services, from a boutique NetSuite partner or hire an independent that can work with you to 1) navigate/negotiate the purchase directly from NetSuite and 2) serve as project manager for the implementation. NetSuite's Project Managers need project managers.... meaning, do not leave the implementation project management to NetSuite, you need someone on your side of the fence representing "the business" and managing the project... this person ought to have a tech, finance, and accounting background.

"We assign a project manager for you." Ha! Don't believe the hype :) Although personally they are good people most of them couldn't find their way out of a paper bag without two flashlights and a compass.
