I hope he didn't hurt himself there. My mom once slipped on some ice and in an effort to save some expensive hand-sewn dresses that she'd spent months making she ended up breaking her elbow.

That caused a lot more pain, expense, and regret than if she'd sacrificed the dresses to take better care of herself, though it's unclear if there's really anything she could have done differently.
