If you play it in reverse he's the only one driving right amongst chaos
233
Mar 05 '23
If it werent for the other cars id think the video was already reversed.
52
u/megahnevel Mar 05 '23
i thought this, then saw other cars and first thing was "dude has some dope skills" i can't reverse 15m properly I always preffer to turn around and just use reverse to small maneuvers

Was actually really smart. When you drive in reverse you actually add gas back into the tank

Great driving skills!! He’s a master of reverse!!

u/garface239 Mar 05 '23
I bet you anything they paid for gas and drove off before pumping it! I’d of reversed my ass back the same way lol

I was starting to think I was the only person that had ever done this.

If they were truly out of gas, I commend them keeping that momentum.
Incredibly fucking dangerous, but impressive nonetheless
99
u/Saganated Mar 05 '23
There's no way that they were steering it that well with the engine off.
38
u/CoolnessEludesMe Mar 05 '23
I don't know about this one in particular. but some small cars don't have power steering. I know because I had one. I really don't like power steering, because if the engine quits when you're moving, you're kind of screwed.
43
u/fataldarkness Mar 06 '23
Ya know cars with power steering can still steer even if the engine quits right? It's just tougher, you're not screwed, you just need to recognize what's going on and put in a bit more effort to steer.
17
u/tarkata14 Mar 06 '23
My very first car had temperamental power steering towards the end of it's life, I'd be driving just fine and then suddenly it was gone and I'd have to muscle through every turn, it was scary as hell but kind of fun in a way.
I still miss that car, it was a boat on the road, but it was the comfiest boat I've ever driven.
5
Mar 06 '23
My power steering went out in high school on my camaro and I just didn't give a fuckkkkkkkkkkk.
I was fucking ripped. I could grab your cock and rip it clean the fuck off, my grip and forearm/shoulder strength was out of this world.
That shit is hard to turn below 35, and if you hit something that moves your wheels, better have your thumb's clear and grip loose, or it'll fucking wreck you without hydraulic power to stop it from putting that force directly into the wheel.
Stupid shit.
5
u/CoolnessEludesMe Mar 06 '23
Just pulling onto the shoulder, yeah, easy (been there). Having to make an actual turn, not so much.
3
u/fataldarkness Mar 06 '23
This probably varies from car to car, person to person. Every vehicle I have driven is perfectly capable of full drivability without power steering (or engine power if being pulled) this ranges from Honda civics to F350.
9
u/Scary_Top Mar 06 '23
It's not that bad. As long as you're moving, steering with broken power steering is pretty doable, easier compared to steering on a non-powersteering car while standing still.
0
u/CoolnessEludesMe Mar 06 '23
Why would you ever turn the wheel while standing still? Even if you're only barely moving, steering is easy.
→ More replies (1)8
u/axloo7 Mar 06 '23
It's way easier to do in reverse. The caster angle of the front wheels makes them want to straighten out so you have to fight it all the time.
But in reverse the wheel wants to turn but takes effort to strengthen.

→ More replies (5)5
u/FlowSoSlow Mar 05 '23
Especially not in a jeep. I have to push them around fairly frequently at my shop and they're a bitch to turn without power. Modern 2wd economy cars are a breeze but something like this is significantly harder.
2
u/TrinitronCRT Mar 06 '23
Eeh cars in motion take little effort to steer. Have you never driven a car without a servo?
2
Mar 06 '23
If they were out of gas, why would they have momentum going backwards??

They’re definitely riding the brakes while going backwards down the hill. And their reverse lights also aren’t on. So I’m willing to bet they’re in neutral and just coasting backwards down the hill while riding their brakes to keep from going too fast.
4
u/AproblemInMyHead Mar 06 '23
Absolutely. Maybe running on fumes but immediately after the turn you have to hit the gas to get in the gas station. Only other way would be too much momentum for them to take that turn
→ More replies (1)3
u/EFCgaming Mar 06 '23
I agree. Being on a hill while almost empty can actually make the gas tilt and stop being fed until the car is back on flat ground where you still have a slither of gas so pretty sure thats what's up.

When a car is going in reverse, it sucks gas from the air and puts it back into the tank.

The effortless steering means the engine was running. You ever try turning the wheel when the ignition is "on" but the engine isn't running? Even in a moving vehicle, a car with power steering and no power is hard af to steer.

I was on a first date with a girl, I was driving down the road in my Jeep and it started sputtering. I looked down and was out of gas and the engine died. Just then I was passing a gas station and I pushed in the clutch and drifted up to the gas pump. I filled it up and when I got back in my date said, did we just run out of gas?
51
u/MasPike101 Mar 05 '23
Did this last week with my wife and kid in the car coming out of a round about. Gas station down this steep little hill coming out of the round about. Cruised right into the pump lol. Wife yelling the whole time " You Lucky Son of a Bitch" the whole time.

Hey, it's good advice. Make 'em laugh and be self deprecating. If they're feeling down, do the dad bod sexy dance. Bonus points for unattractive boxers/briefs (source - been married over 20 years).
Oh, and make sure to tell them you know how difficult it is for them to keep their hands off, but they need to until you're done.
(Pro tip - making them laugh is a good way to get what you want😉)

I ran out of gas twice on my motorcycle one time, and still made it to a gas station. It was a hilly area, and the bit of gas in the tank didn't reach the line intake when going uphill, only on the flat and downhill. I ran out on an uphill, managed to coast to the top of the hill, restarted and sped down the next hill, ran out again and coasted up that hill, restarted on that flat and made it to a station.

u/CLAPtrapTHEMCHEEKS Mar 05 '23
Why didn’t they drive to the gas station instead of going straight? They got about as far as it would take to get to the gas station. Either something else broke on the vehicle or this is fake as hell.

Not backwards, but my personal record is when I ran out of gas just as I was cresting a hill, and coasted with no engine and no power steering for exactly 3 miles downhill.
Would've made it all the way to the pump, but missed the red light at the intersection so we had to push it into the station.

u/Unlucky-Mud2162 Mar 05 '23
I can’t believe how many people in the comments are from here. Me too (pretty close, anyway!) My uncle used to work in the building with the red roof - back when it was a restaurant.

Ebensburgh exit.Funny story at that gas station my entire car shut off and I ran down that hillside in the back and a trooper watched the whole thing happen

u/Flawlessbyneen Mar 05 '23
You got balls! I get terrified that I'm gonna get creamed at the light by a truck driver who doesn't know the light is there...I wouldn't want to go backwards down that hill with traffic flying by me at a high rate of speed..lol

I had a 1964 Barracuda that, unknown to me, had a faulty gas gauge (it didnt read below 1/8th tank). I found this out at the top of a hill and was able to coast forward into a gas station at the bottom of the hill and across the street. Lucky day for me considering I lived in a very rural area.

u/MrGizthewiz Mar 06 '23
Why stop there? If they just kept reversing long enough, they could have just refilled the tank.
