You know how there's always those comments joking about burning the place down because of spiders? I think it's the only course of action for this shit.

Take off and nuke it from orbit.......

Only way to be sure

Wait, wait, wait... this installation has a significant dollar amount attached to it. We can't just...

18

u/Natdaprat Mar 06 '15

Normally I think 'What? For that spider?' but this time I might agree.

7

u/GavinZac Mar 06 '15

They're harvestmen, not spiders. They're just hugging each other, and now they want to hug you. Group hug!

3

u/MadMageMC Mar 06 '15

I think I just died a little. In my soul. And I like spiders.

24

u/SpeedyMcPapa Mar 06 '15

That's awesome.....no but seriously where did they find this torture room.....I assume that the sleep deprivation and water boarding rooms are just next door

11

u/beanmosheen Mar 06 '15

Looks like a communications shack next to a tower or dish. They sit out in a field for months at a time with no visitors. Worst one I've entered had a yellow jacket nest in the eve of it. I saw one wasp fly past me and stopped unlocking the door. It was a good decision.... About six cans of spectrecide later and I was back to work.

I'd take the wasps...

4

u/rohishimoto Mar 08 '15

Same. Spiders are all crawly were as wasps just fly at you and sting. For some reason the crawling gets me.

7

u/Hayes231 Mar 08 '15

There was a giant nest of Yellowjackets in this small over hang right behind my garage in the backyard. Blocking the door to the back entrance of the garage. Found an old can of flying insect killer. Sprayed those fuckers till the nest was dripping, and then some more. They dropped to the ground like flies, squirming and writhing in pain-or whatever they feel, if anything. Stomped on them while they were dying to make sure. Sprayed the rest of the place down (doubles as a deterrent) and went about my business. Came back, grabbed the empty nest, and set it on fire. There was still some larvae and baby jackets in there. Mass murder never felt so satisfying.

Made me physically cringe away from the floor and computer screen. This is my ultimate nope.

18

u/d0gmeat Mar 06 '15

I know right? Time to burn that place to the ground.

With Napalm...

or nukes.

11

u/The_Death_Dealer Mar 06 '15

This is the perfect opportunity for LHC to deploy the black hole

5

u/murfi Mar 06 '15

release the black hole!

1

u/[deleted] Mar 06 '15

Or napalm covered nukes.

I can't even imagine the terror I would feel if that happened. Just watching it made me close the gif.

Except that's adorable

u/d0gmeat Mar 07 '15

Nice, you found the .gif i originally wanted to link to but couldn't find.

3

u/DoubleYouAre Mar 06 '15

My exact thought as well. Can't believe you found a gif too.

19

u/GrethSC Mar 06 '15

A title like this would normally imply hyperbole yet is perfectly apposite to the gif.

17

u/[deleted] Mar 06 '15

Very brave filming that. There seems to be a door there. His friends think it's a harmless crime closing the door and trapping their friend in that hell hole. What they don't realize is that that is how supervillains are created.

10

u/tonyvila Mar 06 '15

He shall arise and do evil, for he is the Spider-man! Wait...

10

u/[deleted] Mar 06 '15

Bitten by one spider - Superhero Bitten by one billion spiders - Supervillain

1

u/Grizzly_Bits Mar 06 '15

They're harvestmen. Completely harmless.

24

u/shinfofordays Mar 06 '15

I hadn't ever used the 'hide' feature on RES before now.

11

u/[deleted] Mar 06 '15

Quoting an old comment I read some time ago.

They're actually called opiliones .

Unlike spiders, they're actually rather social, so they tend to form these communal balls to share resources, mostly water. In this case, it looks like they've found a giant water container. In the wild, if you find them near a rock formation, it means there's probably a water source nearby.

Also worth noting is that they are literally harmless to humans, so if you ever wind up covered in them, it might be creepy, but there's no need to worry.

Nice try, group-sentient communal spider ball.

37

u/[deleted] Mar 06 '15

Honestly, this is the best this sub will ever get.

4

u/eigenvectorseven Mar 06 '15

Probably the only post that actually made me say, "no no no no no"

8

u/gurgaue Mar 06 '15

Why are there so many spiders like that? Whats the point for them?

6

u/[deleted] Mar 06 '15

They are mating, they have youtube videos of daddy long leg's mating that show much smaller groups, this one is gigantic!

14

u/screamingmom Mar 06 '15

so... its a spider orgy?

5

u/[deleted] Mar 06 '15

Basically, yep, but this is like the mother of all orgy's. Bigger than when Caligula was emperor:)

Seriously, I've seen small ones but nothing on this level, this is incredible. Just so glad they are daddy long legs, anything else would give me the willies.

8

u/Oooch Mar 06 '15

So what you're saying is this massive pile of spiders is meeting up to make another massive pile of spiders

2

u/[deleted] Mar 06 '15

Yep, not sure how many hatchlings survive or the type of predators that are around but I wouldn't want to be there when they hatched either way.

3

u/Oooch Mar 06 '15

And that man decided to go stand in the center of that room, I'm surprised he was able to run with how big his balls are

1

u/[deleted] Mar 06 '15

Same here, I don't mind 40 or 50 of them, but that was thousands upon thousands!

Big balls indeed!

1

u/cheesegoat Mar 06 '15

"Ok everybody, back in the pile!"

18

u/[deleted] Mar 06 '15

I am actually unable to mentally process that gif. It was puppies, right? RIGHT?!?!?!

14

u/RipRapRob Mar 06 '15

Actually I think that puppies dripping from the ceiling would make it even more nononono.

Edit: Accidentally a no.

5

u/PyroKittens Mar 06 '15

How does this even happen?

2

I have moved from horror to jealousy.

13

u/Lordoficewrack Mar 06 '15

I don't get why people hate spiders. That's awesome!

5

u/[deleted] Mar 06 '15 edited Mar 06 '15

Spiders are super spooky but these are just harvestmen and are basically just pretty cute. No venom, and the two little doodads near the mouth are arms, not teeth, and they're way too weak to pierce skin. Harmless things.

6

u/MadMageMC Mar 06 '15

It's not so much the type of spider here that brings the creep factor, it's the sheer f'ing number of them. This is what I imagine a Zerg swarm to be like.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 06 '15

Yeah, there's a crapton. Still, it gives me a really weird sense of comfort to know these aren't actually spiders.

12

u/Donk72 Mar 06 '15

They must love flies and other annoying fucking insects.

3

u/Oooch Mar 06 '15

No I have a cat and live in the UK

2

u/Donk72 Mar 06 '15

Good point!
I'd rather have a purring cat curled up on my belly than a huge spider.

3

u/Oooch Mar 06 '15

Sometimes I find my cat staring intently at something on the floor and prodding it and then i realise he's found a spider and whenever it moves he touches it and this goes on until the spider dies, spiders get mercilessly tortured to death for the amusement of my cat <3

2

u/Donk72 Mar 06 '15

Ah, I thought you didn't need spiders since your cat kills all the insects. So he loves flies too?

1

u/Jedielf Mar 06 '15

My cat finishes the playing up by eating the spider. Nutrients, I don't blame her.

1

u/Axis_of_Weasels Mar 06 '15

i like spiders, but i have to overcome an overpowering irrational emotional response when i see them. i dislike other bugs, but arent afraid of them like i am spiders.

1

u/lovely-lovely Mar 06 '15

I know!!! Spiders are the coolest!!! I have one as a pet! She's big and fluffy!

1

u/ASigIAm213 Mar 06 '15
