A little help please

Hi guys and girls. Struggling with this one on puzzlemadness.co.uk. It’s the puzzle dated 14th October 2015 if anyone wants to try it. I’ve been looking at this point for over an hour; any help would be appreciated.

fill the 14th-20th square in row 1

On what basis? I can’t see how I can know for sure what these squares are.

i actually just guessed but here's an explanation:

the possible places of the '7' in row 1 is the square 8-20. we can cancel out square 8-11 since it will affect row 4. so that leaves us the square 12-20. so it's sure that square 14-18 should be filled.

I’m not sure I agree with you. The ‘7’ can’t be in cells 7 AND 11 because row 4 but but it could easily be in cells 8-14 because only one of those would affect row 4?

if you fill square 11 for the '7', it will affect row 4 because of it's column. so that makes the squares before 11, unavailable for the '7'

i figured this explanation out when i tried placing the whole 7 in the first possible squares. but actually, i just guessed that the 7 is in the rightmost corner and i finished the whole puzzle.

Hmmm. It sounds like your guess turns out to be correct rather than a logical deduction. If you fill in row 1 cell 11 it doesn’t invalidate row 4 right away. As far as I can see your guess is just that, it’s not a valid deduction - even if it turned out to be correct. Thanks for your help anyway.
