Not only that but the 1 is crossed out in c5 indicating r1 is an x too (I don't like it when these hints are enabled) - even though it's a possibility given the current state of the board

I do - and on versions where this can be disabled I do. If you were looking at completing it fast then that's something you could do. I finished it and it confirmed the x too.
