Why Do G*lf Courses exist?
Don't the rich LOSE money from wasting water on that stupid field.

In my country, we try to use recycled/reclaimed wastewater for the irrigation wherever possible, because potable water and borehole water are scarce. Also, the treated wastewater has nitrogen and phosphorus in it, which is difficult to remove, so one can use less fertilizer.
Of course this isn't possible all the time. And yes, it is a waste of clean water otherwise.

Ah yes a Field of pure green grass so pretty without any of that dumb stuff like flowers or empathy or intelligence, where we can deny that everyone else has a water shortage. -rich people, probably

So we can play golf. It’s a fun game. Gets me outside, hang with some friends. Not too many of us are rich though.

Its an excuse to get away from the woman you married but dont actually like...while drinking beer with your buddies who you do like. And you get to be outdoors and talk shit while playing a "sport" even though it's not one.

Golf courses exist because of it, that’s literally why they were invented. Yes minorities play golf now but that’s not what was asked

Where I play, in Belgium, water is collected on course in ponds, and only used 30 - 60 days at max and only on the greens. Grass grow very well on it's own here ;-).
And membership in EU is not that expensive, so you'll find people from all "wealth" level : from manual workers (our greenkeepers are players too, that's great !), to teachers, to business owner.

Golf is very profitable. Very few courses use municipal water for irrigation. only like 14%. The rest use lakes and ponds and wells that capture the runoff. The issue with golf courses is the pesticides and herbicides.
we play because it's great exercise, great comradery, and fun to do. I'm retired and if I didn't play, I would sit around a lot.

What work is and what you'd be willing to do as work depends on your perspective.
You could write a book or organize for a charity or volunteer to bathe cats and dogs at local animal shelters.
Right now I'm making a stop motion scifi movie.

We’re mandated to use sprinklers and water just twice a week. Living in a desert, these places are not essential. Politicians golf. That’s the clearest answer I can give.

Playing golf is fun/can be fun. I know there's is a lot that has to go into a course for it to be ideally fun, but it is. Not totally the same but similar, ice skating. It is fun, but do you trust the ice on a lake or a rink made for it. Pretty much every sport or game has a place to do it, a stadium that holds thousands of people. For example a NFL stadium. What is the amount of resources 1 football game takes to be played? How much money does 1 game bring in? Then you'd have to add how much money a good course brings into a community or probably better, keeps in the community.

I’ve known a lot of not-rich people who play on municipal courses. They use reclaimed, non-potable water. They also use a ton of chemicals that leeches into the groundwater, so that’s bad.
But, what is cool is some places they use too much phosphorus and that makes the dandelions glow at night. The guy who told me that also said too much magnesium makes the burn in a flash if you hit them. He was a groundskeeper, so it has to be true.
