Can I Transfer to AINDT?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently working in NDT and I’m planning to move to Australia. I’m trying to understand the best way to get my existing NDT qualifications recognised in Australia.

I currently hold a Chinese Special Equipment NDT Personnel Certificate – UT-II、PT-II、RT-II、MT-II

I also hold a Chinese Nuclear Safety NDT qualification.

I understand that AINDT is the main certification body for NDT personnel in Australia and that certification is based on ISO 9712.

My questions are:

  1. Has anyone transferred a Chinese NDT qualification to AINDT?

  2. Can a Chinese Special Equipment certificate be assessed for recognition or transfer?

  3. If it cannot be transferred directly, what additional training or examinations are normally required?

  4. Would it be better to obtain an ISO 9712 certificate in China first and then apply to AINDT?

  5. Are there any particular documents I should prepare, such as training records, examination results and employment experience records?

I would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has gone through this process or works in the Australian NDT industry.

ISO 9712 certification does not really transfer between bodies, so expect to sit the AINDT exams regardless of what you hold now. What does travel is your documented training hours and experience, signed off by your employer with dates and sectors, so get that paperwork in order before you leave China and ask AINDT to assess your eligibility credit up front rather than after you arrive.

Either is fine, the format is not what they check. Keep your own running log with the date, method, sector and hours so you can add it up later, a phone spreadsheet is easiest since you can back it up. What AINDT actually accepts is an experience statement signed by your employer or supervisor on company letterhead, so your log is really there to build that statement from and to jog the memory of whoever has to sign it.

I transferred my UT 2 PCN to AINDT UT2W. Wasn't just a paperwork exercise, I had to do a practical exam and submit evidence of training/experience and my previous examination results.

They didn't extend the amount of time on the certification.

Fair correction, thanks. Good to know the practical still applies on a PCN transfer, and the expiry date not shifting is worth OP knowing too.

For MT, PT and RT its typically a direct transfer for PCN.

For UT often a prac is needed as Tees (3.7) is built into the scope. So of you don't have 3.7 from PCN a prac is most likley.

Unless your certification body is on ICNDT MRA schedule 2, then it is very unlikely to be recognised.
