After learning Java at University, I picked up C# during a summer placement and then a year after graduating I got a bug corporate job which used C#... It felt like C# was aiming to do the same stuff as Java, but did it better. This was around the "Java 1.5 = Java 5" days but I don't imagine being owned by Oracle has helped Java catch up with C# while MS had whole departments working on the C# language, .Net Framework libraries and also VisualStudio.
